Coir is amazing! *updated pic 10/10*

i had a bucket of coir that I tried spawning a BRF cake to.. FAIL, sub stopped colonizing and a single tiny shroom popped up.

that was my fault sub was too wet. it has been sitting in my closet covered for a month..

opened it up and decided to jump a few leftover grains in it , not even close to how much i should add but i stirred it up and let it sit for a day uncovered...
looked today and BEHOLD.. there is MYC growth and im just gonna let it sit..

coir is so uncontamable its SILLY

I agree, coir is amazing.  It never contaminates unless you add stuff to it.

Ive had nothing but bad experiences with coir, even by itself.  it never seems to fully colonize and it always ends up contaminating on me.  i have a cow farm near me and have been collecting aged cow pies for my bulk sub. its amazing how fast it colonized compared to coir (almost a week before) and havnt had a problem with contamination yet. not to mention pretty potent mushrooms. no idea what im doing wrong.

well my coir top sub layer..seems to be working wonders then my frosting layer...... im running comparison...but ..coir has been a great friend to me......

now that i look at that pic again. i dont see any way for FAE. that could be a big problem. but IDK what you keep on top of the bucket.

TEK.. there is no TEK here..

just some moist coir in a bucket with leftover grains stirred in (btw its not just what is on top, its stirred in too)

i call this tek, "Throw some leftover grain in a bucket of coir"

i will handle FAE with a diaphragm type cover or drill some holes, it is still incubating at the moment...

this coir has been sitting for a month, and i open it to look inside like every other day.. now i open it every day.. trust me, coir is cantam resistant.. at least the contams i have around MY house..

im still a noob, but i think if you had mixed in some coffee and vermiculite it would have taken off like crazy. but thats just what i imagine, and im a noob.

verm would add water retention.. may not be a bad isea to add dry verm since its still a little too wet..

the reason i did not add coffe is because coffee is very easily taken by trich.. now coffe is a great additive, especialy when you are using like a 1:6 ratio or lower.. the MYC takes over before contam sets in.. but this is a SLOW AND STEADY grow.. so i need the least chance for contam...

also this coir was pasteurized in just hot water (like 130 degree) so it retains all its healthy bacteria etc.. That may be why it is doing so well.. just a guess

Update 10/10
still trucking along
looks like no contam so far...
now remember this was just some leftover grains thrown in a bucket of coir that sat around in a closet for a month because it was too wet and never colonized from the BRF cake i threw in it...



so its been about 7 days now..
