Few quick questions before I start my grow

Wally was all outa qrt jars so i have 24 pint jars. They are TINY :/ But its what i got to work with lol. Could i inoculate with just 1/2 cc?

Using wbs, about how long should my pint jars take?

When using a tyvek filter, do i punch holes in it aswell? (I know i have to in The cap)

Also, does it matter if there is printing on the tyvek filter? I grabbed some from usps and it has labeling on it.

I know the "printing" will not be an issue, just to be safe put the print side up.

The smaller the jar the fast it will colonize because there is less to deal with.
You will need to put a hole in the tyvek to knock up the jars, I just cover the hole up with micropore tape...

coffee filters filter coffee not microbial spores (mold)

hardware stores carry mason/kerr jars of all sizes

supermarkets too... I have a Redners grocery store near me who has just about everything I need for all my mycology supplies... kinda weird. lol

So I put tyvek with holes on the jar, then the cap with holes, then another layer of tyvek with no holes?

watch this video www.mushroomvideos.com its in the "5 steps to easy grain prep" part all filter types and how to do it.:thumbup:

put cap with holes on jar then 2 layers of tyvek then screw on ring.  after you inoculate you will have punctured a hole through the tyvek so you cover the hole with micropore tape.  let colonize.

huh???
All I do with my grains is 2 tyvek filters. I dont use the metal lid. When I first started experimenting with them, I would do 1 layer tyvek then the metal lid with 2 3/8 holes in them and then another layer of tyvek.

I would suggest you do the latter, because I just may be getting lucky with only 2 layers of tyvek and nothing else. :wink:

Or you can try Citric's method of self healing lids. That's what I am currently trying. Hard to be patient waiting for the mycelium to populate.
