When are people going to learn that you can't solve most things through fucking tripping...

"My cat just died, do you think I should trip?"

"I just took seven bullets to the torso, when I heal, should I trip?"

STOP.

I hate to say it, because it seems so totally unfair and wrong (to me anyway), but it sure sounds to me like the folks who have said AA and stop hanging out with your friends are absolutely right.

You see a buddy with a drink in hand, you get blacked out wasted.  Pretty simple.

If you're successful, maybe you'll be able to drink responsibly someday.  But maybe not:sorry:

i think although it sounds crappy, the best way to stop drinking is to forget about it. Even though you don't drink, it appears your constantly thinking about drinking. or trying not to drink. Constantly being worked up about it will get you down. like you're experiencing.

Bye the way. If those are you're real friends they wont serve you alcohol or offer it to you. If they do there not real friends because they help you into the gutter.

Alcohol is a nast nasty addiction. eventually you have to get used of the fact that people drink around you. But if it only offers grief and disgust in you. you will have no motivation to ask for a glass. When you forget about the whole routine of drinking is when you are cured. but you can never drink again. this is how i quit smoking successfully. stop thinking about it.

good luck!

No secret... It's called manning up.

I used to drink like a retard too, until one day you just realize it better in moderation.

Personally, the OP sounds like an alcoholic, and should probably avoid booze alltogether. But, figuring out for yourself that moderation really is the key to fun drinking.

Buy better beer too... Have one or two 11% barleywines instead of 10 piss waters.

Respect the brew!!

Exactly what I was gonna say. If you aren't buying shitty gas station beer, it's a hell of a lot harder to put back 18+ bottles.

Most of the beers I like have such strong flavor, that it usually takes at least an hour to finish a pint or two.

I used to drink low amounts of high quality beers. I think oneday something in me snapped.

Forgetting about it helps me not to go out and seek it; but doesnt help when I come across it.

Thanks Swifty for the good advice; Ill try it. I actually had 6 months in NA before and 2 months in AA at a different time.

I used to be a big beer connoisseur and buy the high quality shit until I drank myself into poverty.

Changing your drink of choice will NOT help you.  That is a cliche error in reasoning.  99% of the people you will run into in AA will tell you they tried that.

It does not work.

Unfortunately if you want to quit  - you have to quit . And you have to be serious about it - because the necessary steps are not fun. BUT sounds like neither is your life.

And you only get one. This is it. Don't waste it.

Then you clearly have no control, and should probably stop taking drugs. It's a shitty answer, and most likely not what you want to hear...

Drug use is (SHOULD BE) serious business, and some people simply can't handle it. Nothing personal against you... but some people can't drink milk, some can't eat shrimp, and some can't handle alcohol properly.

It's just the way it is.

I dont have a problem with other drugs at all. I do opiates maybe a dozen times a year; smoke herb a couple times a week and dont touch uppers.

I quit cocaine no problem (havent touched it in 4 years)
I quit cigarettes no problem (havent smoked since new years)

I cant handle alcohol and Ive accepted that.

Im at the end of my drinking days. My skin started to turn yellowish and Im way too young to be actually feeling my liver like I do.

Yeah dude... that's really bad. Have you had a liver ultrasound, or has any doctor warned you about elevated Liver Function Tests?

I think that's what settled the issue for me. :yesnod:

In the course of this thread - just a few short hours you've gone from "I'm willing to do anything" to "I THINK this is the end of my drinking" .

Until you are really REALLY ready to quit you won't be able to.  Unfortunately you cant do it in small steps - that doesn't work.

I'm not saying you should stop drinking - as long as you are having fun go for it. That's the point.  BUT IF you do feel like its no longer fun and you can't stop the merry go round then you can not take baby steps - its all or nothing.

Oh, and unfortunately you will have to quit EVERYTHING.

I don't know what to tell ya man.  Me and my group of friends drink pretty much everyday, we all get the shakes, insomnia, anxiety when we don't drink at night.  And my alcohol use isn't "i need to drink to escape reality" its more of "I don't know how to have fun unless im drunk"  Good luck man, i don't know what to tell you, i don't get how people can half 3-4 drinks and stop.  I think for the most part people that do stop are either scared of what they are like when they get drunk.  Or they are scared because they are pussies:shrug:

Ill stop drinking; but I dont see how quitting smoking herb correlates to that in anyway.

I dont get baked and want to drink. I get baked and want to eat/sleep.

The only way I could see it being a problem is if my smoking buddies are heavy drinkers. Ive got at least two people I burn with who dont drink AT ALL.

I used to drink 1/4 keg + 3 40ozs + pint of gin + half a box of wine in a night and still be standing in the morning.(not counting sips I bummed off other people's drinks)

I'm sorry but no one can drink that much... 1/4 a keg is 31 beers. 3 40's is another 10 beers. A pint of gun is another 10 beers by alcohol volume. Half a box of wine... lets say another 6 beers?

Your telling me a human being can drink 57 drinks in one night? I don't know if that is humanly possible. I'm a big dude and we have a bunch of big dudes in my fraternity and maybe 15-20 beers in one night will lead to a black out bad night. Your proposing three times that.

Either your some type of inhuman machine with a serious problem or you blacked out after the 10th beer and thought you were drinking the rest of the night...

Either way the trick to killing your addiction is some positive thinking and self empowerment. If you see yourself as this weak person who can't overcome it, then that's how its going to play out.

That was over exaggeration on the 1/4 keg. I only had about 5 big gulps full of beer off that.
I only had about 1/4 of the box of wine.
It was still a shitton to drink.

or, possibly, they don't like feeling like shit all the time.  Maybe showing up at work and seeing the next 8 hours of fierce hangover stretched out in front of them sucks.  That was a pretty big factor for me.

When you walk into an AA meeting or a rehab, asking for help, and you say "I need help with this and I'm willing to do anyting" they are going to respond with "Stop drinking and taking drugs".  You can't then say "Oh, well, except for that". Its not easy.

I think alot of times we are addicted to getting fucked up  - not just one substance.

AND there is NOTHING unique about your situation.  They have all been there, seen that, done that x10
