"Indoor Liberty Caps Community Tek" (work in progress) * 1
    #10977263 -

Workmans Post:respect::bow2:

Is this the only successful attempt posted on shroomery????
I will be receiving a print in the near future and would like to try something.

I want to try a community attempt at Psilocybe semilanceata (Liberty caps).....:otd:
Like ideas for spawning, substrates, casings and fruiting.
Then take the majority pick on which teks are best for each stage and try to work them into an all in one tek for Libs.
Then I will give out as many prints as I can get to all that added to the teks compiled.  sound like a plan???

All Ive ever done so far is cubes and a few portabella tries:thumbup: (lost my port cultures:rolleyes:) so I need all the help/info I can get.
I know that these are a pain in the ass to do indoors but I think with the knowledge of you fellow shroomerites, we can come up with a working collective tek.

I wont start anything until a tek is put together and I make sure all things needed are available and ready.
I should have 90% of all supplies needed.  I will get anything required (out of my own pocket if said item cant be substituted) to make this successful.

so name what stage/tek (spawn/sub/FC/casing/etc..) and your info and discussion will begin on how/why and if/if not the ideas will work for the "Indoor Liberty Caps Community Tek".

:thanx:

had anyone seen those indoor herb gardens for sale at department stores? you keep those pretty moist but they don't get any molds, they are open air. I may just be talking out of my ass I wanted to mention it just in case. would it hurt to grow grass and inoculate with "rows" of spawn?

cool idea, I'll have to go check those out.:stoned:

it would be cool to add spawn to the dirt/sod or whatever is involved and see if anything happens.  libs do love grass.

these gardens simulate an outdoor grow, I am very interested if anyone else thinks this has any potential, finely ground straw could be put on top of soil just like newly created lawns while grass seed germinates.

it may be just like amanitas muscaria, they may require a relationship. also I think doing this from multispore would give any who try it a better chance instead of an isolate, like they say.........MS is random as hell.

that's what Im hoping, is to get a strain that is adapted to indoor cult. and print it and share it to get the strain into other more capable hands to further the indoor variety. so everybody can have liberty caps to work with.

this is the closest Ive ever had to actually having some lib caps to try out.  Ive never even seen a wild one growing around here.

The only reference to Ps. Semilanceata cultivation I can find is a picture of the mycelia growing on pasteurized straw in The Mushroom Cultivator by Stamets and Chilton.

This definitely gives credence to the idea of using straw as a part of the substrate.

This paper also references growing liberty caps on "A STERILE SUBSTRATUM OF COMPOST, RICE GRAIN, GRASS SEED, AND WATER (12:3:4:22) AFTER CASING WITH PEAT/CHALK".  There seems to be an image missing, but I think it's the picture included in one of the original threads on indoor cultivation - the fruiting bodies in an Erlenmeyer flask.

The paper states that only one test actually fruited, while others failed to fruit after mycelial growth.  Maybe straw, which was not included in their substrate, should be added as a component?  Or maybe the sub should be cased with straw?

This is a really cool idea.  When I looked at Workman's thread one thing I noticed was when he said " Fruiting is at 58F and hyphal knots are everywhere". Pretty darn cool, and serves as a reminder we're not talking about cubes here.  If you're in a northern latitude, the coming autumn should be fortuitous.

All info and help on anything to do with Psilocybe semilanceata is greatly appreciated.

so when I get my spore print should I bust out the agar or just make a spore syringe???  Im leaning towards agar so I can use less spores on each attempt and do test spawn jars...then I have to decide on which spawn in best for libs.... then the substrate battle begins.

this is the info Im lookin for mostly but other side by side comparisons will benefit all.

One tiny drop of a spore syring into an lc could be enough for many experiments and also one tiny swipe onto agar could lead to many possibilities. I would do them both.

all my GrainLCs do good but thats like taking candy from a baby.:rofl2:

One idea for a LC FC might be a modified mini-fridge rigged to operate at 58F rather then the typical ~35F.  Or as it turns out, wine refrigerators already operate in the 46F to 66F range and then would just need some sort of humidity and FAE modification.
