sounds intersting, from what i've read semilanceata prefers a high ph level. Rabbit manure is more acidic so I'm interested to see how this works out.

if your libs are colonizing slowly, I would recommend against coffee grounds. Using them is like spawning to brf, you need a quick colonization rate to make it happen without contaminants.

never had a prob with coffee grounds contaminating yet. been using them for over a year. Libs like a high nitrogen content which spent coffee grounds can provide. thats why Im testing 1 with it and not all.

13shrooms said: original plan was to spawn to: 6qts pasteurized straw, grass clippings and CVC+G (dont have any manure) in 3 different trays.
Then once that is all colonized case with a thin 1/4" soil layer on 1 tray, no casing on another, then the last tray I will case with CVC+G the same way as the soil casing.
but I have recently changed that
Im spawning 1 quart to straw, grass seed, rabbit manure cased in a thin layer of soil and grass clippings.
another to coir, coffee grounds, rabbit manure cased in soil with grass seed.
and the last Im just casing the colonized rgs in a thin soil layer with grass/straw clippings.
what if you dug up grass roots with the soil intact and pasturized that?

I want to keep it as "indoor friendly" as possible. not all people have a yard to get grass from.
Im using topsoil from the store to see if enough microbes are present and the grass seed to replace tearing up grass/soil roots. something like that.

i got an idea
take a shallow tray fill 1/2 inch or so with soil then plant some grass in that
grow the grass then use it as a casing layer kinda like sod
make sense?

Good job so far
I'm a noob so I hope you don't mind me asking, but how is it that the spore print wasn't contaminated and thus cause contamination of the jars?

u guys.
Im leaning towards luck on the clean spores.
it was the smallest print I have ever barely seen.
just enough to make 1 syringe and it was my wifes 1st attempt at making a syringe.

Well, I still have all these lib syringes, and remember I am the dummy that innoced several BRF jars with it. The jars are not colonised but no sign of contam, so I am going to put them outside in the shed for the winter I guess.
But, it occured to me that if these get "domesticated" they might be a good winter project. I have one room upstairs that is not heated so it is plenty cold.
I am still learning about the cubes so I'm just interested in tracking this project at the moment. However, I do have several lib syringes if anyone wants to get in on the action.
They must be pretty good as it seems these babies tried their level best to colonise but BRF just isn't going to do it for them.
One other question though, what about spore prints in bird food, you know for the feeder? Or I could shoot some of those syringes into the water for the birds?
