but maybe they prefer grass roots. nobody has tried, right?
the few successes i've seen have been with dirt, straw and poo. why don't we try dirt, dead grass with roots, and poo?

My Mycology textbook (Introduction to Fungi, Webster and Weber, 3rd ed.) confirms that it is saprotrophic...decaying/dead grass only. I'd guess that a layer of grass clippings on fertile soil as well as actively growing (and actively cut, and possibly treated harshly to make some die) grass would be close to ideal.

ok if I colonize rye grass seed (1qrt jars) then spawn it to ??? and case it with ??? and added rye grass seeds mixed in then fruit in cooler temps.
Im puttin it together but Im still missing some info.

Well the TMC has a pic of them growing on straw so you might be able to spawn to that

HAHAHA, i just thought of somethin.
i have access to this old cooler. you know the kind you see pies in, in old diners?
it has two racks/ about 1' vertical space btwn each. they run the full lenght of the cooler which is about 5'LX3'HX3'D
one end of the cooler is motor/fan/etc. so minus 1' of actual fruiting space.
but yeahhhhhh

workman noticed that when he cased it with soil, it pinned where the straw met the soil, right?
i can't remember completely riht now though..

A tiny bit of garden soil was placed on the cake after fully colonized to provide stimulating organisms.
Pins are forming only where dirt is present.
there it is.
so should i coat it in soil like the dunk and roll?
that looks like a light sprinkle and only the areas that pinned are the dirt areas.

i would think so! woo! excited for this!
even if it fails, we'll learn something
but cover about half of the cake i think. see how well it goes, then dunk the rest?
don't know much about growing so take me slightly lightly

K, once I get around to making a syringe I will make 3-1qt. RyeGrassSeed jars as per RRs RGS prep. let cool, inoculate and let colonize.
then spawn to: 6qts pasteurized straw, grass clippings and CVC+G (dont have any manure) in 3 different trays.
Then once that is all colonized case with a thin 1/4" soil layer on 1 tray, no casing on another, then the last tray I will case with CVC+G the same way as the soil casing.
I will fruit them in my just ordered mini-greenhouse @ room temp.
sound like a good 1st go at it or am I just

well two things strike me first off what is ccv+g? secondly dont liberty caps need a much lower fruiting temp than room

CVC+G = Coir Verm Coffee plus Gypsum (lotz more letters)
and yes they do
BUT the whole point of this thread is to find/get a good reliable INDOOR fruiting strain so each attempt after will give better chances of the spores to carry the genitics (or whatever) of warmer temp fruiting conditions, then share the "good" prints with all those that truly helped in this thread, if all goes well (could take a while).
you notice how many vendors have Lib prints in stock??? an indoor strain would allow much more "studying" to take place.

I'm almost more excited about what your results will be than my own current grow experiment.
Thinking case with thin dirt and grass clippings over it, simulating the grass hummocks it's found in/near.
I agree with truskool, your current avatar is most excellent!

they probably won't fruit at room temp. if they don't, cool them a little until they do. then take a print and fruit them in slightly warmer temps, then repeat until you have a warm temp strain.
i like your idea, i totally forgot that they would be easier to grow if you develop a strain for warmer climate!

thats the plan
its funny cuz Im also trying to find the sweet spot (70F and below) for fruiting cubensis in cooler temps. they get bigger and more dense but not as many below 60F and around 80F they fruit in numbers but not size/density. upper 60s is going good so far with Dancing Tigers and South Americans. cold fruiting thread.
Along with the other links in my sig Im currently undertaking.
Im trying to get my hands on a Weilii print also to accomplish an indoor fruiting strain with that also.
All this experimenting is a lead up to my big attempt at Indoor Morels when ever I accomplish all these other challenges. I WILL CULTIVATE MY OWN BULK INDOOR MORELS! I WILL SUCCEED!
Should keep me busy 4 a while.
