a friend or mine just got a liberty cap and was wondering what would be the easiest way to cultivate this strain

Well... is the mushroom fully identified as a liberty? Also if it is dont full with it because you will knock off spores the more and more you touch it.

Anyways go to a store that sells syringes. Buy a couple.

There are a couple ways you can get the spores off the shroom.

The best for making syringes is this technique. Go to this thread and follow Ganja's instructions.

This is definately not an easy strain to cultivate. Forget about indoor growing if you're not an expert that knows his shit really well. There is some info about growing liberty caps with outside beds around here. Search the forums.

But it's quite hard...

Psilocybe semilanceata (Liberty Cap) prints are NOT sterile so if your planning on making a syringe it will be contaminated.

Your best bet if you want to experiment with this hard to grow species is to work with it on agar.

Very interesting, I've only heard of them cultivated in sterile conditions once before in a erlenmeyer flask. I wonder how sporeworks can guarantee them as being sterile.

As boitek said, this is not a strain, its a species. That said, I think its your best bet to make some agar plates. Ganja has done this but then with a cloned specimen, but if they are sterile it should be easier to do this. I think it was bluemeanie that said, it best to go straight manure for fruiting. (maybe do an agar transfer to grass seed?)

But who am I, I've yet to pick my first.

As I thought, the P semilanceata print from sporeworks you have is from a specimen picked in the wild and is therefore likely to be contaminated.

finally a poster that demonstrates some clue. Firstly semilanceata is a SPECIES not a STRAIN - as it isnt a strain of cubensis. Secondly the last thing you would do would be try and use syringes - since this mushroom has never to my mind been fruitied indoors in sterile envirnoments - thus the spore print will be wild and usually this means contaminated.
If your not using agar yet dont bother. This one is tougher than most.
As for knocking spores off - its amazing what some people wil believe without ever taking the time to investigate reality...
