Mine is beginning to be a little cloudy (it's a year and a half old) it can be difficult to see the finer definition when it's in the box. I often have to plan and draw out directions for what I'm going to do in sharpie on the bottom of the dish. Ya know marking where the good sectors are so I can tell when it's in the box.

I own them, I watch them a couple times a week so that Im going through the motions in my sleep.

Glovebox, check!

Unforseen difficulties aside, I'm guessing Liberty Cap mushrooms will fruit under fairly consistent environmental parameters.
Once these parameters are identified, it becomes a straightfoward task of implementing technology, or harnessing natural conditions to provide them.
Perhaps a list is in order detailing what aspects of their cultivation have yet to be identified.
Substrate: Grass Seed, Organic Compost? Fruiting Temp: 45-50deg F?? Incubation Temp: 65deg F? Air Exchange: Constant? Fruiting Humidity: 80%+ ??
These are my best guesses... all those who are willing to share feel free to provide.
from the advanced forum thread. input???

awaiting my agar supplies now.......
so what does everyone think I should try first for spawn substrate material..I know grass seed, but what else verm for moisture, straw, coffee for Nitrogen? brf/drf, PF-tek, grain/wbs or what? need advice.

I wanted to this.
I'm not sure, but every pic I see of Liberty Caps I've seen it looks as though they are "feeding" off of the grass' root system...
Could they be symbiotic?
I would say definitely start with grains, or even LC>Grains. Then after that it's anybody's guess!

Workman said: I used grass seed because it has more hull than other grains. Liberty caps are associated with grass and the mycelium is seen attached to dead grasses and grass roots. They prefer the nitrogen enriched soils where manure was once present and where grass thrives. They also seem to tolerate fairly soggy ground.
In my experience, the mycelium grows fairly slowly, especially on sterilized horse manure. Room temperature seems fine for colonization (around 72F). Although manure doesn't seem to be an ideal substrate, once fully colonized it pins readily when exposed to unsterile soil casing and cold temperatures. But the pins don't always mature. Invitro fruiting is unlikely.
have you considered that libs, may, to some extent, form a symbiotic relationship with a 'benefitial bacteria'?
last year i collected a soil sample from directly beneath one of the three libs i found, in what was once a very productive field. i failed to get a print though, so had nothing to work with. might try again this year.
hopefully such a "benefitial bacteria" (in a soil sample) would survive drying, to be later reanimated in either a bulk substrate or casing mix. or, at least survive pasteurisation when fresh.

The DSMZ Institute of microorganisms from Braunschweig / Germany is using oat flake agar for some of their Psilocybe semilanceata strains.
Psilocybe semilanceata grows much better on oat flake agar than on malt extract agar or on potato dextrose agar.

121 C = 250 F
http://www.pauliland.ch/zahlenparade/umrechtemperatur/umrechnung-cf.html
Adjust the pH value to 4.5
Beware, this medium will be less firm than other agar recipes, so extra agar has to be added to compensate. (30 gr. / 1 L)

What if you inoculate grain spawn directly to fresh cut grass and let it in open air. _____________________________________________________________________ I'm looking for a semilanceata print, please PM me.

I tried a 1 quart of LC once, on some nice thick lush well manicured grass.
Nothing... Although there still might be a chance, but I doubt it.

Alright, I currently am not able to do any agar work anywhere in my house due to massive amounts of mold growing in my kitchen (walls in and out) and 2 side porches. all severly water damaged and completely engulfed in mold and random fungi. My kitchen ceiling caved from the flat roof above it holding water (well not any more). so untill I get a new roof, kitchen, porches and remove/destroy all the mold I can I wont be bustin out the agar projects.
feel free to continue adding info/suggestions here.
