I don't know, im sure you did not kill off all the beneficial bacteria if you only did it for 12 minutes.

Don't get me wrong, it is entirely possible to sterilize your substrate and still succeed.  Your chance for contamination increases significantly though.

Sterilizing is unnecessary because you are bound to see better results pasteurizing.

you don't sterilize poo, you pasteurize it. if you PC you will lose allot of the nutrients in it.

Yeah, and you greatly increase contamination risk.  If you kill off all of the good bacteria that's naturally in the poo, you leave those nutes more open for a contaminant to drop in and start munching down.  Normally those good bacteria don't pose a threat to the mycelium, and help ward off contamination from setting in.

I just do the pillowcase method of pasteurizing poo because it's so easy.  Let it drain overnight and the next day it's pretty much ready to go.

thanks guys

what exactly does Pasteur get rid of

mold
other fungus
Bactria

when you pasteurize something what exactly are you killing

if not all 3 of the above then 1 will win

When you pasteurize your poop, you're slowing microbial growth by greatly reducing their numbers.  You're not totally eliminating all of the bacteria present, you're just cutting down their numbers.  Your goal is to have the mycelium efficiently colonize the poop.  After pasteurization, the bacteria present in the horse poop isn't of a significant amount to pose a problem for the mycelium.  I think the mycelium eats a lot of it as well; I know that firefang, after being pasteurized, is very useful to the mycelium.

If you didn't pasteurize, then there would be a significant amount of competing bacteria present in your substrate.  Once you've spawned your mycelium, you now have mycelium competing to a much greater degree with the bacteria in the poop, so they're fighting over the available nutrients.  This is inherently bad for the mycelium, and obviously if the bacteria wins the fight, you'll wind up growing a contamination.

If you sterilize your bulk substrate instead of pasteurizing, then you'd greatly increase the chance of a contamination floating by, landing on your substrate, and setting up house.  You want some bacteria to be present because it won't post a threat to the mycelium and it'll prevent other contaminants from setting up shop because there will essentially be less room for them to do so.

That's why you pasteurize!   :super:

ok so i just pc 1 gal poo at 15psi for 12 min do you think thats the same as a soak as in auger's method?

it was in a 1 gal jar with aluminum foil on top no poly or any other material.

poo was old from a compost pile and had a lot of straw mixed in and no smells of bad stuff came from pc

i will be adding 50/50 poo/wbs multi spore spawn to small loaf pans till its 100% col. and flip them over in the shot gun

also the spawn is oyster and its real active.

soooooooo.....

this is just a test to see if it works not allot of stuff ridding on this.

if it does not work then i will go back to the auger 165deg for 1.5 hr method.

any input would be nice and i hope some have tried this.

i relay want input from those who have.

bump is believing

ok so the ice cream sandwiches are well ........have a look.

second flush is doing well after dunk without roll shrooms are bigger and nicer looking too.

next stage of test is to try bulk grow in mono tub to see if it will colonize fast enough to keep out contam.

wish me luck and pics of 2nd flush to come when they get bigger.

thanks guys
