A Question:The Mystery of Pasteurizing the Poo

My question is this: I believe it is a fact that Cubensis does not require any microorganisms for growth and fruiting like some other mushrooms do.....so why pasteurize the Poo, instead of PC the Poo? I'm willing to believe that pasteurization is the way to go, but I'd really like to understand why.

I did read Roadkill's Horse Poo Tek, which is an excellent step-by-step instruction. I also did various searches on "Poo", and "pasteurize". I also got some useful responses from Uber and Poops the other day, shown at this link ("Using Poo"): Shroomery.org
This states that in pasteurized Poo the mycelium wins while any remaining micro organisms are diverted fighting each other, and that if you PC Poo, you gotta be ultra-clean or any other "nasty" organisms could easily take over.

Maybe somewhere along the way I missed the answer, but I am still not clear on this: we DO PC/sterilize (and not pasteurize) grain substrate, and yet other organisms can grow on grain. Why is Poo any different as a substrate, if Cubensis does not need these microorganisms ? One would think it would then be wisest to PC and totally destroy all microorganisms, just like we try to do in grain, because PC-ing should not harm the critical nutrients in the Poo (as it does not in the grain).

my friend PC's horse poo and straw in spawn bags all the time without any problems. although, he does use a flowhood.

I find sterilisation in conjunction with a spray bottle of H2O2 to work wonders! I make sure to spray the surface of the compost/dung with peroxide after adding the spawn, after filling the fruiting container, and anytime I open the fruiting container. I do all of this in a non-sterile environment w/ good success.

My understanding is that keeping these beneficial microbes helps retard propagation of non-beneficial or unsafe microbes. So, PC'ing can actually create a contam problem down the line.

However, Josh knows his shit and I'm sure you can have success either way.

My friend tells me that his biggest problem comes when he lets his caps open and spores drop on the surface layer. This seems to be all the nutrients trich needs to gain a foothold and ruin his casing.
