Just one of my many disagreements with Christianity/religion in general
    #10916896 -

I just have to talk about this--I was reading a pamphlet from the church I occasionaly go to. Well I haven't gone in about 6 months but I had this pamphlet laying around.
Anyway, It was talking about how humans have always tried to fulill the gap to the secrets of eternal life and happiness and yada yada yada. There was an illustration that showed a man on one side of a cliff, with a valley separating him from the other end. Branching out from the cliff were four things, 'philosophy, religion, good deeds, meditation'.
This damn picture was implying that all of these things were man's attempt at finding eternal peace, but in the end they all failed because 'god' is the only thing that can bring you to having eternal peace.
Upon seeing this, I couldn't help but say :wtf: and then  for this illustration being so ludicrous. It's implying that religion can't get you to where you want to go, but GOD can. How is god different that religion? this is coming from a christian church. Is christianity not a religion? WHAT)_THE)_FUCK

(i posted this in a thread first but figured it'd get more views here)

Religion can't get me to where I want to go. I don't give a flying fuck if that is the case for the guy next to me.

I'm sick and tired of all this atheism vs Christianity bullshit. Everybody just shut the fuck up and live your damn spiritual life in private. Your spirituality does not better me any more than mine betters you. My spirituality is for my purposes and that is it.

About 1/5th of the young drug addicts here are going to be thumping Bibles and Narcotics Anonymous books within 10 years.

When the government starts telling you that you can or cannot
adopt children because of your religious affiliation

then there is a problem

When you can't hold public office based on your lack of a religious ideology

then there is a problem

Keeping your religion to yourself is fine and dandy but
when you have your rights taken away because of your lack of a religion

then there is a problem

Good for them. My brother is a recovered alcoholic. His greatest tool in remaining sober? His belief in God, Christ the Savior, etc. Great for him. I'm proud of him for turning his life around. He doesn't go preaching the good will of his god to me, or his neighbors, or anybody. He used his spirituality as a tool to better himself. That's how it should be, end of fucking story.

Sure he does.  The most important thing for an AA to remain sober is to 'carry the message'.

Quote:

He may not do it to you but he does it to others.  He's probably waiting for you to finally get in too deep so he can rescue you and bring you to God.

What is God? To me it is an ambiguous word that can mean most anything depending on the context. When used with no context I'm just lost.

I suggest the book, "The Disappearance of the Universe" to you. If you are curious and open to other ideas. I just finished it, and it is one of the first and only things that have ever mad since about religion and spirituality.

religion should have no place in politics.  It seems very shady how Christianity has such a big influence on politics

But to say it is higher than us, would that not be to say 'it is above our level of comprehension' which essentially means 'I don't know?'

religion in general is used as an excuse to extort people for money, and to do bad things in general.

what the hell is a "holy war"  and i do mean those asinine quotation marks.
