good point.

All actions come with personal benefit. Good or evil there is always something in it for us, otherwise we wouldn't do it.

The best of actions would be the ones where everyone involved see an equal benefit. The worst of actions would be the ones where one or a few people see a benefit while others suffer.

Obviously this is not black and white. There are many variations between good and bad.

Do you mean just in reference to people or in reference to all things? Do you not use the adjective "good" to describe things?

sorry I am late to the party. anyway I meant in reference to people. Events or actions can be good or bad from a single persons perspective. If an event or action serves your best interests it could be defined as good and vise versa. Still a event or action may be bad for you and good for others so universally good and bad do not exist. The only possible exception I see to this is the complete destruction of the universe which would be bad for all.

Yes I do use the words good and bad but their meaning is completely subjective to me. Mostly in reference to my likes and dislikes.

I dont see how love and compassion would move us forward. For the most part it has been the opposite side of the fence that has advanced us the most. War = technological advancement, famine and plague = stronger gene pool, subjugation = focused use of resources ect...

I may not be good but I am handsome!

Actually good is not a good word choice here. Skillful, or emotionally  healthy would be better.

When I was 8 years old, a Sunday-school teacher taught us that when someone asks how you are, you never reply "good" because you're not, only God is good..

I think this brings up an interesting point. It may be the duality of our minds and not necessarily social conditioning that tells people to label others good and bad. It could be a self preservation technique good = helpful, bad = dangerous

Every person no matter how good their intentions are. acts from self fulfillment. my opinion.

example: a guy trying to save the rain forest may seem like a selfless act. But always does it for his own personal boost of ego.

exceptions do apply..probably.. but not in the western world.

I don't know, he claimed to be the only son of God and that's a pretty bad move as far as I'm concerned. Just as equally bad of a move would be his timing, living in a time when the history of his words could so easily be manipulated and confused. If he was as high a power as so many believe, he should've known better. I guess he can't be blamed for the foolishness of the ones who follow him (or the misrepresentation or misinterpretations of him), or can he?
