Religeous Double Standard.
    #10805605 -

Why is it, that religeon is made up primarily of philosophy, yet there is no room for the philosophical amongst the religeous?

I would say it is partially because they dogmatically consider it revelation, not philosophy.

Huh? I'm not sure what you're talking about.  I think St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Søren Kierkegaard, C. S. Lewis, and Paul Tillich would all have problems with this statement as well.  Not to mention any number of Eastern philosophers from Lao Tzu to Gautama Buddha to Nagarjuna to Adi Shankara to Sri Aurobindo, etc.

Yet the religeous (those that practice the religeon) require little to no room for the philosophical amongst the religeous.....

Perhaps that clarifies my statement.

What percentage of the population, religious or not, would you describe as philosophical?  I think the fact of the matter is that most people just aren't that interested in philosophy.  I don't think it has that much to do with religion.

Good point. Although I see where OP is coming from, TPTB in the church are there to scratch ears that tickle with what they WANT to hear, not what they NEED to hear. There is very little room for new thoughts amongst the American Christian Church.

Thank you, it was bothering me as well.

And I believe the OP is focusing mainly on modern day Protestant religions rather than religions as a whole. This would be one of the only areas the statement truly fits.

Because all people, even/especially 'religious' people, don't want the truth, they're just pretending, postponing their ending a little while longer

True religion is to die right now, to completely transcend all material things & kill the ego, any takers for the chopping block?

Even the one who says 'yes me!' is a liar

Who wants it?

What do you mean, that philosophy has little to do with religion? Most religions, aside form belief and faith, are simply old philosophies that stem from attempts to civilize man. The fact that they are fundamentally mostly common sense with a little bit of cynical uselessness mixed in does not mean it is no longer a philosophy.
And as far as religious, yes, I'm speaking of mainly the american protestant christian cults.
I can say anything to a christian that seems intuitive and insightful and I get the deer in the headlights look.... And what's more disturbing, I can say that I understand a scripture in the bible to mean this, and all of a sudden, it's an accepted idea.

Well there's your problem right there:  You assume that what you consider to be intuitive and insightful will be seen that way by others.

Sounds like you're not talking about fundamentalists there.  Usually they would snap back with their interpretation of scripture and assume it's the only correct one.

Yeah, I'm slowly learning to not share anything spiritual with other people who are not receptive to my level of existence.

Possibly because existing religions are already sets of philosophical ideals, they are not open for philosophical debate.

That's a shame, considering so many peaceful philosophies are open to the idea of allowing one to choose their own religion.
