Philosophy and Commercialism
    #10701515 -

Philosophical thinking, like most everything else, is subject to change and is thus being continually revised. Relative to its long history, a recent and novel application (for better or worse) includes its ability to be bought and sold--under a number of different names and guises. Some may argue to this extent it removes the creativity and curiosity, and begins to resemble a purely business model.

So, my point? Are these sorts of new outlets which channel philosophical inquiry into personal (especially financial) gain a moral affair?

I ask this because it seems recently I have been offered various opportunities to engage my brief history with writing and academia with other individuals who orient it into marketing. This includes new book publications, new programs and seminars, group memberships, retreat centers and conferences, and a plethora of other networking possibilities.

This seems to be a rather strong trend in our consumerist culture at the moment. We see similar things being done with the so-called green/eco/organic/natural movement, with the yoga-lifestyle paraphernalia, and other plastic wrapped Eastern goodies.

I suppose the lines of distinction between making your ideas public and expanding your professional life is somewhat vague. Yet for me, akin to a true testimony of the starving artist, I have maintained several creative hobbies and personal interests for years--all without any attention or benefits other than my own edification and amusement. And all the while, externally, I sit amongst my creations more or less the same. While my creativity itself may be influenced by that very vacuum, I'm thinking a change--if it can be positive--will be refreshing territory.

Just wondering what kind of opinions you guys had?

Religion,Philosophy,Politics seem to be the best ways to make money. You impress them with your style, and your ability to engineer phrases of infinite ambiguity. There are millions of people who run to religion and philosophy for guidance and strength. As long as people feel the need, someone will be there to take advantage.  Those that preach religion and philosophy have it very easy, as long as they are very good word engineers. (con-artist).  They don,t have to do any work, just tell people how to think and get money!  On the other hand with how things are today, if you don't violate your rules a little you will get run over!
