A walk through the forest

These pictures were taken in a National Park, East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.


Macrolepiota clelandii




Another one
       

Cortinarius sp.
 

Amanita muscaria
 
   

Psilocybe subaeruginosa
   

The tree they were growing under, some eucalyptus

And of course kangaroos

A great place with heaps of biodiversity. I haven't come across any snakes yet, but I'm sure as the weather heats up they will make an appearance. The Eastern Brown Snake is common here, it is the second most venomous land snake in the world. This keeps me on my toes when walking through long grass. :uhoh:

Australia has some really creepy and potentially deadly wildlife. It's one of the reasons why my wife refuses to go there, even though I'd love to visit.

Yeah, I am well aware of all of the venomous and poisonous wild life, but it can't deter my interest.  I'd love to go there some day and check out the mushrooms, animals and plants.  New Zealand too.  The endemism of a lot of the wild life in both places is quite high and very intriguing.

Same here. I'd really love to go. Australia is the only continent I haven't been to yet. The closest I got was Tahiti and Moorea in French Polynesia.

Well, you guys are always welcome!

I have been lucky enough to live in both countries. NZ is my home and we have no snakes at all and only one venomous spider the Katipo, which is a relative of the Red back spider. Australia on the other hand is full of one deadly thing after another, but you are more likely to get killed by a kangaroo when they jump in front of your car when doing 100kmh down the road.  :yesnod: When you survive that you know you are ALIVE.

yeah its nowhere near as bad as it sounds when you look at all the deadly animals here.
I was talking to some friends from South America and the way they spoke about life there made me very afraid to visit that country, but as they said, when you are there its not like that.

In my travels people are the ones you should be wary of, animals hardly have hidden agendas.

Karode13, those Macrolepiotas, if I found them I'd probably eat em,
given what cactu said and their very simmilar appearance to other ones i have eaten. (M.dolichaula )

Btw , Today I got an ID of a Boletus sp. from a Mycologist at Melb Bot Gardens.

I went to try and find more yesterday and couldn't but I am definitely keen on trying these out. I have a cookbook with some good recipes for Macrolepiota.

I will check your thread out too. :thumbup:

Regarding Snakes.Sub season Coincide,s with winter Hibernation.Summer Season I Commonly encounter Red bellied Black Snakes.Does pay not to get between 1 and its Cover Although a bite Would Only cause pain n Nausea.Some fields Have Tiger snakes Which remain active after dark.I Stop every 3rd step As They stand up to Stike if ya get Within 5 step,s.Brown Snake,s Like drier Area,s.Small eyed snakes r Deadly but are small and stay well hidden.Remember if encountering a snake They strike at movement.

I know about snake behavior and I always carry a walking stick for protection against animals and humans. The more I read the more I don't fear them, the majority of bites are dry bites meaning no venom is injected. So if I happen to come across one and it does strike me the chances of it being fatal are slim indeed.

I respect snakes and will leave them alone but at the same time they intrigue me so I hope to come across some in the future.
