honesty is the best policy
    #10652798 -

that phrase should end with "Just kidding"

People, in general, always say that they want to be told the truth, yet when they are told the truth they quite often become angry or upset. It seems like when asked "Tell me the truth" they really mean "Lie to me so it softens the blow"

This, I've found is mainly in social problems and not questions of fact such as "Did you steal Z?", but rather more personal/social things such as "How do you feel about me?" "Why did you break up with me?" etc.

So why do you think we cannot make up our minds or rather cannot say what we really mean in these situations?

:hook: it could happen.

Honesty is the best policy ... when the policy is shared.
One honest person in a group of neurotic liars (IE human beings) just causes friction.

I think this is another term take in the wrong context.
Just like:
"Be careful what you wish fore"
"Love thy neighbor as Thyself"
"The truth will set you free"

Like Markos stated earlier yesterday, It's all about the Historical Context.

IMO, being honest with yourself is damn good policy.

While it may be a outdated phrase, people still tell you to be honest with them but they often are angry with the results.

Perhaps that's why the phrase 'brutally honest' has a qualifying intrinsic value.

I didn't intend to incenuate that it's an outdated phrase, but more or less that it has lost it's intent through pedagogy and lack of translation.

Its pretty simple:

"Honesty is the best policy" is describing the virtue of a social contract. For instance, it is possible to mutually benefit from a contract between different parties.

Well, that was the ordinary meaning, but of course its a favorite to gripe about being the tough guy that "can handle the truth" as opposed to those who "can't".
