My parents are together.
They just make it a point to not fuck things up. They don't set themselves up for it. A lot of things people do set themselves up to ruin their relationships, and rightly so, since that an unconcious way of ending them. Basically, don't marry someone unless you truly love them and really want to spend the rest of your life with them, even if things don't end up perfect. And they waited until they were in their mid-20s to have children, after they got their shit together.
That taught me to stay out of bad relationships (be VERY conservative with who I date) and also wrap my shit up when I go to stick it in a girl. (don't want to knock them up and end up in a miserable relationship)
True love is a rare thing. Many people never get to experience it, it's a very rare thing. The "love" that the media drills into us is just lust, not actual love. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE.
I also want to add that many who get married do so because they feel they "ought" to do so, even though they don't really want to. Society has a way of coercing people into doing things that they don't want to, marriage included and when our subconcious finally bubbles up we ruin the whole thing on purpose without realizing it. that's where a lot of drama comes from.
