Who cares what religion of perception is the right one? I don't.
I just know that I do have a soul, and I know that it will go somewhere after death.
Different beliefs are just different perceptions of the same thing. No matter what ones believes, wont we all experience the same "real one" in the end?
I don't claim that my beliefs are omniscient, objective, and perfect for everyone. Just that they work for me, and that's what matters.

In reply to:
What happens to your soul if someone creates a copy of your brain which thinks just like you do, and your original brain is turned into scrambled eggs?

Well obviously nobody knows. but maybe Soul is formed from the universal conciousness merging with matter. In which case you would have a "new" soul which would most likely be similar to the original.

In reply to:
Does your soul leave the material world and allow the copy of your brain to exist by itself?

The original soul may leave the material world and return to a higher state of energy. The copy of your brain would form a connection with universal concioussness out of which a new soul could become manifest.

In reply to:
Does the copy get a brand new soul? Can the soul think without a brain? If so, what is the funtion of the brain?

Yes the copy would get a brand new soul. In my definition of the soul no it cant think without a brain. The function of the brain is to process sensory input, remeber things, allow you to speak etc etc.

Obviously im winging it here!!! What say you Shroomism?

Your answers actaully sound pretty good to me - there's no way anyone could dispute what you said, so why ask for reassurance? Your theory can't possibly be proven wrong (or right for that matter). So if it sounds good to you, tell people that's the way it is. I guess the reason people want other's opinions is because the more people who agree with you, the easier it is for you yourself to believe.

My problem with all of these theories is that none of them can be shown to be any more valid than any other. So it all boils down to which one you like the best, not which one is the most correct. Some people just like the idea of a finite number of souls, so they conclude that there is life on other planets to keep the balance even. Your theory is intersting too, as it implies that there can be a varying number of souls. In the end, no theory can be shown to be better than any other, because there's just no way to test any of them. I think we all generally tend to go with whatever best suits our personality. But does that make it correct???

"a brain cannot function without a soul or consciousness behind it"

That means you believe that all living creatures have a soul. Then what about a cloned animal??? Its brain seems to function just fine, even though it is just a copy of the original.

if you copied some living thing, the clone would be just as living of a thing as the original (assuming theres no degradation in the copying of cells). it would have the perception it was somewhere being copied, it blacks out and now its awake again with all the past memories of the original, its just occupying a different piece of xyz space. meanwhile the original is chilling back in the copy machine. but the moment you copy something, it becomes unique because it will start recording the perceptions gained from the new physical position.

edit:
this is assuming theres no higher dimensional component of our existence. basically 'soulless' meat computers.

I tend to concur but untill we clone a human (or until the results are made publice!) im not 100% convinced that personality and memories will be transferred.

if you're just talking about a straight up DNA clone then no, memories would definitely not be transferred and the person would be a different person than the original.

you fools, need to learn some science. the memories would not be transferred, for fucks sake. how exactly is that supposed to happen, Tripod Man? We're talking hypothetical here!! And none of you dipshits has answered the question: What is the value of a soul if it doesn't represent anything unique about a person?

If a Clone simply inherits/manifests/gets a new soul ...what the fuck does that mean? he gets a free ticket to the afterlife? so what??! a ticket to the afterlife is not me.

I don't think any of us said that memory is transferred to a clone (clearly it's not).  The issue was whether or not a clone, which is a copy of the original, gets a soul.

If it does, whose soul does it get?  If one just magically appears then I agree with you that a soul isn't "you", but rather it's just something that comes along to give the new you a ride to the afterlife.

"And none of you dipshits has answered the question"

I actually answered your question a long while back (in my 2nd post) - I said that I don't believe in a soul, and that a copy of me is the same as the original me, hence making my answer "no, there is not only one unique you".

YOU still haven't answered the question yet.  I guess that makes you a dipshit by your own definition.
