To people who's parents aren't divorced
    #10411098 -

Mine have been divorced since I was about 4 and the only memory I have of them together is screaming like hell at each other.

What I want to know basically is what is it like having parents that are together?

Would be helpful to have someone who can remember both together/divorced parents for a contrast

I'm asking because i'm A. Curious and B. have no idea how to act once I get married.

I think the odds of finding someone who's parents have never divorced is gonna be hard.

It doesnt have to be that, just a contrast of them being old enough to remember the difference. Like in the teen years or after

My parents divorced like 7 months ago. It fucking sucks now, just living with my dad. Mainly because he is a alcoholic that is obsessed with the entire house always being clean.

When my mom lived here, I could always go to her to get out of shit. It was like if I wanted to do something, if I asked my dad and he said no it, then I would ask my mom, and she would say yes, then I would get to do it.

I'm 20 years old right now, and living with my dad sucks ass, but i guess a lot of fighting happens when to addicts live together. an alcoholic and an opiate addict. shit ain't fun. i want to move out, but i gotta get clean.

i had married parents for 19 years and now all of a sudden I don't, so ask me some questions or something and I'll give you some insight.

my parents fought and yelled at eachother a moderate amount when I was growing up.

my mom also spent a lot of time in the hospital dealing w/ chronic illness.

I could tell my parents were unhappy, and they still are together and mostly still unhappy.

They stayed together mostly b/c of devout Catholicism, not a good reason to stay together, imo.

Childhood was an unhappy time...

I'm 28, and my parents have married 35 years.  I guess I'm lucky.

my parents fight and yell alot.

they love eachother though more than anything.

sometimes i planned on how to kill my father.

the only reason i didnt is because when i asked my mom why she doesnt divorce him, she told me she loves him.

they dont fight and yell much anymore.

its great.

i think i was a mistake baby.

my dad is a great person, so id my mom.  i am so glad they didnt split apart.

family is very important.

especially in this day when nothing is cohesive at all.

My parents have never divorced. Its a nice feeling. Its really comforting and makes your family feel stable and strong. One crazy thing happened recently. My mother told me that my father has been an alcoholic for my whole life and that she wants a divorce. They never ended up divorcing but I lived 24 years  without knowing about my dads drinking problem, thinking everything is perfect. Turns out my parents relationship wasn't really as happy or stable as it appeared.

I'm in the exact same situation as the OP.

I really hope my marriage doesn't end like my parents did...but, statistically, it prolly will.

I'm 27 and my parents have been married for 30 years.  They always make decisions together as a team and consult each other when serious shit goes down.  They nag and bicker with each other, but I've never heard them full out yelling at each other, or if they do....they make sure they never did it around us kids.

They do things together, they both ride Harleys, so they have things in common.

They also do things apart, which I think is also important.  They have couple friends that they do married people things with, and they have individual friends that they do things with.  I think it's a pretty typical relationship with some up and downs.

When I was a teenager I thought they were going to get divorced, and I kind of pushed them towards that by acting like a shit and causing a lot of problems because I wanted to have a 'normal' divorced family like all my peers.  How fucked is that?

Now that I'm older I have a lot of respect for both of them and the struggles that they have gone through to stay together and be a functional team.  They are two very separate individuals apart, and they are also very decent together.  Mostly.  When they aren't bickering and nagging....but that is just little shit.  I'd be bored and naggy too after 30+ years.

My parents have been married for close to 30 years as well.
They never yell at each other or fight really. I guess I'm really lucky to have grown up in such a stable environment.
They act as a team always consulting one another and are still in love.

my parents are still married after 36 years, though I don't see how. My mom was always a fucking mean ass bitch. She used to beat the shit out of me, and would lie to my dad saying I did she when he got home from work so he would beat the shit out of me.

My dad was pretty normal, but my mom was a whining, crying, bitching, lying, lazy, crazy ass adult child. He should have divorced her and found someone that would have treated him right. All she does is do shit to run away from depression and it depeletes the money that my dad makes. She's always got some half ass project going thats nothing but a money waster.

WTF why are you sad for me?

The divorce stats are clear. The majority of marriages end in divorce is a fact. Nothing to be sad about.
