Nah, it doesn't work, heat breaks down psilocybin/psilocin.  :smirk:  Before I knew this I tried smokin em and they just tasted HORRIBLE.  A friend of mine took a HUGE rip of mushies through my friends gasmask pipe, and he damn near threw up.  Don't try it, it just tastes really bad.  :grin:

Try it and tell us what happens. There are plenty of reports of people getting effects from smoking mushrooms, but many narrow-minded dimwits say this is not possible because heat breaks down psilocybin. However mushrooms contain other tryptamines that are active by smoking. I tried smoking a cap once but it was so harsh and disgusting I stopped pretty soon, but if you can smoke enough (not sure how much) then you may well get some efects.

theres dmt in shrooms and also molokovelocet suspects that some psilocybin could be vaporized and inhaled causes effects. try it without something weed with it

heat def breaks the psilocybin down. This is because of oxidation. That is why shrooms bruise blue because the chemicals get exposed to oxygen. They cannot be vaporised by the same means because the chemicals are not stable enough. This only goes for psilocybin wich is the chemical which causes you to trip. As for the other chemicals Im not real sure but I would truely doubt they would have anywhere close to the same effect as psilocybin. Shrooms are to be eaten or chopped up and drank. I would have to say smoking is just a waste.

I'm not sure if there is. I thought the story was if you add various tryptamines to the mycelia the mushroom can absorb some of the DMT? I don't think DMT naturally occurs in mushrooms.

Anyway, if there is DMT present it would only be in millionths of a gram - you'd need to smoke pounds and pounds of mushrooms to get a decent 30mg hit. And you can't smoke DMT like that anyway - it needs to be 1-2 quick lungfuls.

Yes there is DMT in mushrooms, in trace amounts.

Yes, you are right, this wouldn't be a good way to get a hit of DMT.
Some say they get effects from smoking mushrooms, some say it's a waste.
IME I have never gotten any effect from smoking mushrooms (where they are available in Holland).

I've got to agree with Alex on his debate about the DMT issue..

os not the same as DMT (N,N,dimethyltryptamine).

the same as MDA is nort the same as MMDA.

There is no trytamine in psilocybine mushrooms. They are only related to psiloccine and psilocybine so there are similar physical effects of dmt to psilocine and psilocybine and no you cnanoot get high smoking shrooms.

It seems everyone wants to ruin thier lungs by inhaling chemicals.

When DMT was first synthesized in a laboraory, peolple, like wWilliam Buggoughs and Alan Ginsburg use to inject it intot he muscles of their legs to get high. Later beatniks and poets wold smoke it during lunch breaks in pipes mixed with mint tea leaves or with tobacco. Thud is became known as the business mans high. Thats was before it was discovered that it occurs in over four hundred plants naturally including three carieteis of edible seaweed found of of the coast of Madagascar, Africa.

see Trout's Notes on some Simple Tryptamines and the papers of Dr. Michael Smith fromt he University of Natal, Pretoria, South Africa regardong the DMT in seawweed.

And bufotonine, also listed as a schedule one drug is in itself not psychoactive. That does not mean that when mixed with other drugs that it cold be a psychoactie sustance when mixed with a particular other drug plant. IT was the DEA who included bufotonine along with the other tryptamine compounds as a schedule one drug.

Look in Sigma and Aldridge Chemical book catalogue for Pants lists as sceduled one drugs by the DEA. At the end of that ection is a second list of Plants not sceduled by the DEA. That is one way to find out what new psychoactive drugs are availabnle tothe public if you know how to ordr them.

I have no clue as to the mono-oxolate.

This psilocybin mushroom faq is here at the shroomery and also erowid, it is all over the web.
I also noticed this:

5-Methoxydimethyltryptamine monooxalate [aka Bufotenine] 4

Bufotenine is 5-hydroxydimethyltryptamine, which according to Jonathon Ott, is psychoactive.

But I do agree, smoking mushrooms is not the way to go.

a friend of mine actaully smoked a joint once (weed) with shrooms sprinkled on top of the weed. he said he hadnt really felt any differnt than just being high. about an hour later or so, he was gettin a ride home and looked in the mirror in hte visor. He saw his face morph into his moms face and then back to his own. as far as weed is concered me and him smoke ungodly amounts every day of out lives. this def wasnt cuz of the weed. makes u think.......

back in high school we would smoke stupid things like codine (tylonel - 4) and 'white rock opium' (which was probably not opium) and percieve effects from it.
for the purpose of this discussion i dont think specific chemicals are as important as saying,
if you smoke them, you might feel somthing - inefficent
if you eat them, you will trip - efficent

DMT is in mushroom but its in the micro gram range.

i personally eat about 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 grams dried, depending on the plan, wait about twenty minutes, and smoke a bongload of crumbled caps, for me, it seems to expedite the effects, i may be wrong, but i think it works.

PLEASE do not attempt to smoke psilocybe mushrooms. psilocybin and psilocin molocules both break up with heat above 160 F. this causes for an ineffective attempt at tripping.if you do this you will be wasting good mushrooms that i could be eating so plaese dont do it.

Am I the only one getting tired of these kinds of questions? I mean, I know many people don't know much about these substances and are trying to learn........but i've found myself answering the same questions a ridiculous amount of times.....people really need to start reading and researching this stuff. By the time I discovered the Shroomery I already knew this shit......and I didn't even look at the message boards until I was bored of re-reading the same stuff on Erowid and the Shroomery hundreds of times over. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything.....but these questions are starting to drive me nuts.  :nut: :crazy: :laugh:

Smoking amanitas does work. Goes very nicely with weed.

Saying "psilocybin breaks down with heat" is misleading. If you smoke it, you expose it to flame and cause the chemicals to burn, not just heat. If you heat it (as in cooking) the shrooms are at least as potent, and probably more so since the shrooms can be digested if cooked. For my last trip I cooked 6 dry grams (normal for me) in some soup and then ate/drank. I tripped harder than I ever had before, including full sound distortions, time loops, and more. And this batch had no greater potency, it was crumbs taken from a bag of dried and crushed shrooms.

I've done it enough times now, that I can say with certainty that I trip harder off of cooked shrooms than raw. Only disadvantage is the trips seem to go on for too damn long.
