How about smoking mushrooms? I have read a few carlos casteneda books with many references to smoking a mushroom mixture.. Wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experiences...

It's a waste.

Yes, it will do something to you, but a LOT of the psilocin/psilocybin is destroyed by the heat. So it's a huge waste of mushrooms.

I've heard that smoking them will hit you a lot quicker than normal, though. Think I also heard that the trip doesn't last nearly as long, and isn't very strong (like a mild level 1 trip).

Try it if you want, but in my opinion it's a waste of valuable mushrooms.

back before i knew anything i decided to smoke some while tripping. me and the other 4 guys there smoked a bowl of shroom and geeked out for about 5-10 minutes. man, i felt high as fuck, but it was obviously just me making myself think that(i was already tripping afterall). of course i ended up trying this again while sober and did nothing but waste shrooms. don't do it, it doesn't do anything. and if you get anywhere near a mild trip you would have to smoke a shitload. just eat the mofo's.

Yea, same here abstract, me and a few buddies actually smoked about 4 bowls of really good mushrooms a long time ago while tripping, just made me feel really ignorant and sort of stoned and it actually deminished my hallucinations. I wouldnt never do it again, such a waste.

some friends and i smoked some amanitas per the directions over @ erowid - 'bout 12 bowls - did nothing... the smoke was pretty smooth though :tongue:

Well some types of Psilocybin containing mushrooms do indeed contain DMT - but whether it is enough to POSIBBLY have any effect when smoked I do not know .

Don't do it the heat would just kill the psilocybin and it would not work, basically pointless and a waste to try it. You will/might get a buzz though but thats mainly due to inhaling the smoke and that has nothing to do with the psilocybin in the shrooms to make you trip.
Hell if someone did a line of sugar theyd probably get a dizzyness for a min but whats the point when thered be more use for cooking needs and its dumb lol!

so EAT them!

I did once, It was the worst tasting smoke I have ever tasted, and I have smoked just about everything I could find in the forest at one time or the other. Don't try it, made me feel like shit.

Maybe he was talking about soma (Amanita Muscaria) mushrooms. I have heard that you can get effects from smoking those. Anybody have first hand experience, or know someone that does?

Don't think amantia is too commonly used by the mexican indians tho. If at all. I think he meant psilocybin shrooms - there was a myth going round at the time that smoking them got you high - just kids confusing them with pot. He must've heard that and just ran with it.

Never heard too many successful trip reports with amantia - seems to just make you ill.

Was especially thankful to one special person for introducing us to the wonderful state induced by smoked Amanita Muscaria. About 2 sq cm of the dried, peeled skin from the reddish cap were crumbled and smoked in a pipe along with a tiny bit of MJ to mellow out the otherwise rather harsh smoke.

Experienced a very nice alteration, somewhat akin to a strong MJ buzz without the loss of lucidity and memory usually noticed. Also, the cottonmouth effect of the MJ was pleasantly neutralized by the increase in salivation that the Amanita induces.

This Amanita/MJ smoking mix is highly recommended, especially as a stretcher, enhancer or even replacement for MJ. Was told that the effects from smoking this mushroom are significantly different from those experienced after eating it. Personally, had no noticable unpleasant side or after effects.

The main phycoactive ingredient in Amanitas doesn't break down in the heat from a lighter so smoking amanitas sounds like a plan to me. However smoking cubensis mushrooms is not worth it.

I was speculating (and speculating is definitely the operative word) in another forum about smoking 'shrooms or psychoactive cacti, or more specifically, certain extracts thereof.  What if you did a methanolic extraction on the mushies, mixed that into basified water, mix with a non-polar solvent, separate the solvent layer, and strip off the solvent? This should leave us with psilocybin (and psilocin if it didn't decompose somewhere along the line?) freebase.  Maybe the freebase form vaporizes at a much lower temp than the salt forms do, thus being much easier to vaporize without decomposing.  Being chemically illiterate, my only basis for this euphimistically titled "hypothesis," is that freebase cocaine and it's baseborn spawn, crack, are much more smokably active than cocaine HCl for that reason, and that I've read that only the freebase form of DMT is smokably active.  I would suppose similar things could be done with mescaline from the appropriate cacti.  I would guess that one would vaporize this in an oil pipe, or maybe even a vaporizer or crack pipe.  Maybe it would be a quicker, more intense trip than oral administration?  I have no idea whether there is any reason to try this shit (I'm kinda guessing that if there was much to it, somebody would know by now)--but I'd like to try it next time I score some mushies or Peruvian Torch, or finally get my own cultivation projects off the ground :wink:!  Anyway, let me know if I'm an idiot.  Oh yeah, would MAOI's help with this, anyone?
