I seriously don't recommend smoking mushrooms. I don't know why there is this big controversy, am I the only person who sees the danger in smoking a fungus?

cuckoos - just to add mho..
as i stated way up in the beginning of this post.. i have smoked amanitas per the directions over at erowid. a whoppin' 12 bowls with three other friends. maybe it was the shrooms, although they certainly looked like amanitas, but we just received a slight (what i would consider to be an oxygen deprivation) high. i wouldn't do it again, but hey.. if it works for you, good stuff

is it just the red skin on the caps that get you high when smoking or is it everything in the cap?

Carlos Castaneda was a fool. He ran away from Don Juan in book two i think i recall and wrote yet another two books full of shite while estranged from his teacher before goin' back with his tail between his legs. I would not even invite Carlos round for a smoke let alone a trip session.
But when you think of it i would'nt enjoy some old man fcukin' around with my head freakin' me out every chance he got.
Fills him full of gear then tells him that the old lady down the roads gonna' steal his soul!?! Whats that about.
But back to the topic at hand. While trippin' i have smoked mushrooms with effect. This is nothin' new i think i've typed this before on the same debate.
While in Holland i've bought and smoked 'shroom joints with pleasant, not trippin', but pleasant results.

I got curious and just took about 3 large tooks, there is a significant stony effect and warm body feeling, it is a waste, but oh well, if ya got alot who cares!!

I smoked some shake left over from an 8th I had...I remember feeling a great body buzz but nothing more than that.

Thats it exactly. You dont break through but you do get nicely toasted from smokin' them. I've been doin' a lot of readin 'on the subject the last couple of days and opinion does seem to be divided but i stand by my own experience.
Don Juan, yes he was the man, sounded like quite an entertainin' person.
But wee Carlos, now, theres a different kettle of mouldy fish. Talk about not bein' able to handle your drugs?!? I think it was his inability to simply believe in what Don Juan was tellin' him, eg, "Yes, but when you say i fly do i actualy change into a bird?", to which Don answers, "Does it matter?", which kept him grounded with fear.

i wana know about Amanita Muscaria smoking, nobody has said anything on that. smoke the whole cap or just the red skin on the cap?

I tried smoking aminitas and i got quite noticable effects from them.
What i did was pick about 3 BIG mushrooms, then carefully cut the red skin from the cap off, making sure to keep a bit of the flesh in(for absorbancy, needed later.. just make sure there are no gills, cuz of the spores...)
After you have the red skins set aside, take a shallow pan and put the skins on the pan, with the flesh side facing up.
Now we want to take the remaining mushroom parts and stick them in a plastic ziplock bag. Cut a hole in the bottom corner of the bag, and squeeze all the juice from the musrhooms on top of the caps on the pan.
Next we stick the pan in a preheated oven(170-200F) and keep the door open to let the steam out. As the mushrooms start to dry and their "juices" sweat out, use a spoon or a medicine dropper to collect and put back on the mushroom skins.
When they are finally done drying, you will be left with a resonous black SHRUNKEN skin. I find smoking it with marijuana increases the effects of my bud and keeps me goin for longer!

Have you ever ingested muscarias orally and if so how was the experience different from smoking them?
