Yesterday: Agalloch and Dornenreich

So yesterday I finally got to see Agalloch and Dornenreich. I remember feeling like hell back when I wasn´t able to visit the show when Agalloch played in a venue nearby.

This time it was like a 2 hours drive away instead of 30 minutes. Well, that's considered somewhat far in this small country. Anyway, I was already in the city because of crashing at a friend's place after playing on a noise fest.

I had a few drinks too much at that noise fest and I slept with my girlfriend on one tiny self inflatable mat on the floor. I couldn't sleep all that long as early in the morning one of the house mates started blasting cheapass dutch hiphop. My head felt like made of wood, there was no breakfast available in the house except for an apple.

Anyway, we went into the city and first I had to get some cash. Arriving at the device and checking the amount of money I had left I was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that there was about 125 euros less on the account than I expected. I got pretty worried...

Arriving at the venue it was already pretty crowded and I got to see a part of the band Mely. It wasn't all that exciting and I was too busy with the money thing. I really couldn't enjoy it and I was afraid it would ruin the experience during Dornenreich and Agalloch.

Oh well, Dornenreich is doing a metal comeback after those acoustic albums and when they entered the stage I was surprised by the amount of members. 3... 1 on guitar and vocals, one on drums and one on violin. The violin was pretty (a little too) dominant but the show was amazing. I was afraid it would sound too much like a cheapass folkmetal band but luckily this wasn't the case. I felt goosebumps a few times during their set.

Then after a while it was time for Agalloch to enter stage. While they entered stage there already was a wild applause for them. Some incense-like material was burned and then they started. It's one of the most amazing shows I've ever witnessed. I had goosebumps during their entire show and witnessed most with my eyes closed floating to the music. The setlist mostly contained tracks from The Mantle and Ashes Against The Grain and I was pretty happy with that. The sound was good, they played well and ended with a nice act of playing with feedback.

Sounds awesome. More of a Dornereich appreciator than fan... good, neoclassical indie folk metal :wink:
