Graft peyote on Trichocereus
    #9945111 -

I intend to graft one lophophora wiliamsii young seedling(about 2 months old) on well rooted Trichocereus, about 30 cm long , because I didnt manage to get pereskiopsis yet.
Also should I keep the graft humid in the begining?
Should I put it in the strong sun( which Trichocereus likes) or in shade, where it will grow slowly, to protect the lophophora ?

Thats a very young seedling to be grafting to columnar stock IMO. I would just wait.

if you have to do that, put a baggie over top (clear) and shade it...seedlings can dehydrate/cook super easy!

You have sun limits of the Lophophora, can´t take too much direct light.

how many hours of direct sun would u give it? im not necessarily talking about grafts, more about lophs in general.

In the summer, mine get full sun from sun up to about 11 am. No etiolation with any of my globular cacti from this. No sunburn either.

They usually want like 5 bucks for two cuttings on ebay. It's ridiculous.

seedlings, fresh grafts and non acclimated lophs need less...in time they can be acclimated to all day full sun.  most of mine get full tropical sun 12 hours a day.

Don't graft to pedros, the rootstock is incredibly fibrous. It's just a big horrible mess and since you sound quite inexperienced, failure is likely imminent. :frown: Hold out for some Pereskiopsis or Myrtillocactus.

Fibrous has nothing much to do with it. Its a tad slimy though. That is why mytles are better IMO. But in this case persks are better.

slimy=good
dead xylem (woody) is bad.

theoretically it can all work, in practice it is not always so easy.  good luck with it :smile:
