Grafting Seedlings To Pereskiopsis...
    #8062024 - 02/23/08 07:07 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I posted about this a while back, when I first attempted grafting seedlings to Pereskiopsis spathulata.

I gave grafting a rest out of frustration, and now I'm back at it, with the same issue restricting the potential for success.

So whenever I graft seedlings to Pereskiopsis, the scion heals to the stock fine, but I often get off-shoots of Pereskiopsis growth out of aureoles and the interface between the scion and stock.

I've tried constantly removing this growth, but short of removing the aureole from which it originates, the growth always makes another attempt, either from the same spot, or further down the stock.

I wouldn't be too worried about this, except for that it seems that as soon as these growths occur, the stock ceases to allocate any growth effort into the scion.  Often what happens is that the graft takes, the seedling grows quickly for a week or two, and then the Pereskiopsis shifts back to creating off-shoots.

So does this happen to anyone else?  It's becoming a real issue, and I'm thinking maybe I'm just overlooking some factor or advice that I skimmed over in all of my research. :undecided:

Thanks in advance, guys.

Enjoy your evenings, and good vibes to ya. :hippie:

it happens to everyone. you need to prick tehm off every day, or use a razor to fuck up the areole. i don't cut my areloes out, i just pick at em every day. after a few weeks it should stop. mine are often ok once they are out of humidity and outside (2-4 weeks).

I see, I see.

I'll just keep at it, then.

Thanks for the advice, friend.
