Perception of Self
    #9945065 -

I don't know if anyone else experiences this but, I think about my drug use a lot and I always come to different conclusions.

Sometimes I feel like I am a drug addict, taking hallucinogenic drugs to escape reality.

Other times I feel like a psychonaut or a spiritual shaman who has surpassed the average human sheep on a mental level.

It occurred to me on night at a festival, I had a bit of a freak out and I was thinking to myself "Where have I found myself? In the woods with a bunch of drug addicts who's drug frenzies are fueled by the night long music playing for some one else's profit. This drug acid, is it just another drug that makes you lost in a confusing colorful daze for a while? or is it more? Is what I am experiencing on the drug reality? or just a drug induced false enlightenment?"

How does everyone feel about this?

Are the lessons and ideals that are experienced in the psychedelic state real? Or are they just merely the illusions of a naive hippy who dreams of a blissful state?

I feel the same way sometimes but I realize it's all bullshit.

Like I'll worry that the new found sense of peace and connection with the universe (especially since DMT) and perceived loss of burdensome thought patterns is all just part of psychedelics taking over and "rotting" my mind making me only think I have these things. And that my drug filled adventures are just misguided attempts for glory and grasping a non-existent sense of satisfaction and happiness. But it's obviously not! Every time I get those thoughts they are pretty easy to dismiss when I realize how helpful and sincere these plants have been, and that the thoughts were in my mind all along anyway. The plants were just there to guide me to the well.

Though I see what you're saying. It can be pretty bizarre to look at from another perspective. Especially when we (or just I) introduce "innocent" people to the world behind the curtain.

the things you're saying are the biggest failure of psychedelic culture in this country. i think the things you experience are absolutely real, but there's no context here, there's no shaman to guide you through the experience and help you get the most out of it. here you just eat drugs and you're on your own. if you come out with some valuable experiences, great, but it's up to you to guide yourself through it, which can be very very difficult. these plants have always had rituals, traditions, sacramental sacredness in other cultures. i guess it was tried here with the acid tests and leary's whole thing, but to me that seems like it was a vain grasping at something that's been gone from our culture and conditioned out of our psyche for a long time. not to say you can't have a valuable experience, cause i think most of us have, we just do these things in a completely different context than almost all humans before us, and it feeds that disconnection.
