Biggest red reishi i have found so far..
    #9930415 -

Today i went to a local old growth forest, and was dead set on finding some local native red reishi. I trecked through the old growth for over and hour, just looking for super huge fallen Douglas firs, and spruce..
Anyhow finally i stumbled upon this fallen 200-300 year old Douglas fir, and there was these 2 beautiful red reishi's..

*channels Paul Hogan*  Reishi??? You call that a Reishi???      Here's a reishi =]  also in the OR.OG  gone coastal.
Behold!

How's the flesh holding up? bright white? tan? browning?  Was the skin firm or squishy?  Ive noticed after all this cold(ice/snow)weather things have deteriorated beyond pickability imho.
Those are some nice looking ones you grabbed.  Did you happen to find the antler in root archways?  My odd finds are always from the underside of a log or from the little archways roots form.  The others stay to the half-shell look, as above.

Nice ganoderma, you should be able to get a fair amount of tea outta of that, add 4-5 bags of green tea for added antioxidants to the ganoderma when its brewing.

Many thanks man.. After that first ganoderma find i had a while back, i was stoked about the size of these ones. Thanks for the tip about the green tea, it will be supercharged now.

sulobaiD.....um that is big one man (its in the coast range though, where of course everythig is huge...lol), but i found these within Portland City Limits..hehe

You just need to find the right spots maby dude?, they are abundant(where im at anyhow). Ive seen new reishi, medium aged, and old, growing where im at.Even some tube like reds as well which look super healthy. The inner old growth stays sortive "insulated" i think when we have cold snaps, but where im at, the last real "cold Snap" was a while ago now..

Oh the antler on the left was found on the topside, midway on the fallen doug fir. The flesh on both is a cream white, and it was plyable, strong the outer red part cracks sortive when pushed on, to reveal the cream white flesh.. and smells great already. The one on the right is my fave though, its real heavy and beefy.. But they are well on there way to being dry now, i plan to make some tea in the next few days..

Good to hear there are new growths elsewhere! Ripe for the taking to boot.  I don't know about Ptown, but I was just out today and it was snowing all over hell...hopefully something fresh will pop up.  If nothing else I can always look in the freezer full =]  or my gallery  Happy Hunting!

Should reishi tea taste godawful bitter? I tried brewing a small amount a couple months back with a paddle but it came out inedible. I think the shroom was starting to rot

It should be bitter indeed...(to most people) It ranges from slightly, to super bitter, some young ones i have had were almost "Gymnopilus like" bitter. Some people just mix in some honey, or agave nectar and whatnot when they make it.
