So I take it you would like a culture? I have no cultivation information on this species, but it appears to be a typical wood-decomposer, and thus may follow traditional cultivation methods. I will attempt to give it a shot anyway, I have never seen powdery mycelium before.

Anyone know what type of tree they prefer if there is a specific one? Has anyone spotted them on relatively fresh dead wood? I didn't pay attention to those details, I was in and out of there. The mosquitos were horrible...

My first time truly jacking a thread. It would have been in the best interest to make a separate thread as I did post of my finds as well (and of completely different species to boot). I would never hijack the thread of a complete stranger though...

oh good, just so long as everybody's happy :smile:.

btw: L. sulphureus does not taste like chicken, it tastes like a great, unique mushroom with a verry mild fishy quality. the name comes from the appearance of teh cooked mushroom, which has the color and texture of just slightly undercooked chicken meat.

it whould fruit directly from logs [inoculated and colonized shiitake style] of any type it would fruit from in nature. it should be rather easy, though my cultures all contamed last year.

I find that most descriptions of the flavor of mushrooms to be completly wrong. I usually cannot describe a flavor (especially that of mushrooms), especially when you cook them with things. They taste like mushrooms to me, each with its own different twist but still mushroomy. I also notice in my books it says "odor: pleasant" for many species... Yeah, like that really tells me anything. That is all a matter of opinion...

Anyway, good to know I don't need to do anything special to try its cultivation...

Yeah I steeped it for a good 10 minutes,added sugar,took a big gulp-then started running around gagging trying to get the taste out of my mouth.

I made some reishi tea the other day and I added some leaves from a lemon smelling herb i have growing outside and it made it very good to drink.

it's hard to say exactly how much i put in because i usually just put in a handful of chunks that i cut up to about 2 litres of water, but the simon lemon leaves i put in made it taste similiar to green tea which i am used to drinking.
otherwise i can attest to the bitter awfulness that the straight concoction tastes like.

Ok,I tried it again.This time I steeped 5 grams of reishi powder in a glass for 5-10 minutes,added sugar and some powdered tea mix(lipton).It was much better!

The taste of it ,plain,is ok-it's just the bitter aftertaste that took my breath away(literally).







Mescal=lemon/lime Kool-aid. What did you think I meant?
