Well it looks like I wont be a trust fundie afterall
    #9902306 -

A year ago if my parents had died I wouldve inherited 3/4 of a million dollars.
Now it looks like I will be inheriting zero, nada, zilch.

I had always kinda counted on this happening oneday and decided to live frugally and work for low wages until the trust fund kicked in and then just live off the interest for the rest of my life.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I need a backup plan. Ive got a couple half baked ideas in mind, but they would be more risky and less easy.

Two years ago I stood to inherit more than that.

I'm glad that I never took it for granted.  Instead, I have worked hard all my life, and I'm financially secure on my own.  No trust fund needed.

It makes me wonder though.  My grandparents and my parents both worked extremely hard and lived a frugal life. In doing so, they passed along their values and work ethic to me.  Thus, even though I had a nice inheritance, I never needed it.

So what happened to you?  Did your parents raise you to sit around doing nothing with your life and expecting a trust fund?

No, I live very frugally and work extremely hard for low wages.

I just counted on having it later so I wouldnt have to always work hard and live frugally.

well, it happens, I was going to get a half mill myself til my dad became a crackhead and blew all the money so I feel ya but when it comes down to it we all just want to get shit for free, now I trust God to provide and I have plenty of money when I need it...just never take anything as a fact until you can put your hands on it and actually have it...

I understand working hard for low wages.  Everybody has done it at some point.  But honestly, you never planned to better yourself?  You never had the ambition to put yourself in a position where you could work hard for high wages?

Blame yourself.  You don't even have a plan, you just counted on your parents the whole time.

I work two jobs, about 70 hours a week and both jobs only pay about 7 dollars an hour. The work conditions are terrible and I dont get a moments rest. Im constantly on my feet and it is very labor intensive. I have a bad back because of my work. You cant say Im "sitting around doing nothing". If anything its the white collars who are "sitting around doing nothing"
Im not some corporate drone who gets to rest in front of a computer allday, punch in a few numbers, make a few calls and shit around to get paid a ton of money. I have to bust my ass.

I'm probably going to catch a bunch of flak for this, but 3/4 of a million isn't that much money. Sure, it is a lot to have at once and nice for financial security, but it wouldn't hold you out for eternity. If you lived at a 50k a year budget (assuming no taxes anywhere), that would last you 15 years. Living at more than that, and it would last shorter, and even shorter if you bought property. After that you'd be on your own anyway, so that trust fund would just be delaying what you feel now? I am however assuming you'd spend it and not invest it to make more

May i ask why you are no longer inheriting this money? Could it somehow be invested instead?

For the trust fund I wouldve made 60k a year INTEREST.
That means NONE of the actual money depleats over time, I am simply getting paid for keeping my money where it is and not moving it or spending the whole amount.
Similar to how you get interest for your savings account.

I am no longer inheriting it because the stock market crashed.

Damn, 8% interest?

I kind of figured it would have been due to the crash. My family is hurting because of the stock market crash too. All the stock analysts are saying conservative bonds would have been the way to go, but it is too late for that now.

A trust fund specifically is an account with a very high interest where you arent allowed to touch the actual money itself for a set amounf of years.

Looks like Ill be going to College afterall.
Then if I stay in poverty after getting my PhD atleast i wont have to repay my loan.
(I had a 3.5 gpa at the toughest highschool in the state, so its equivalent to 4.0 at another HS in the eyes of most colleges around here)

Nope, sorry, I'm not in the same boat.
My father is apparently better with his cash than yours, because I still stand to inherit more than that, and about 500 acres in Colorado as well.

Trust me.  Even with a Ph.D you have to repay student loans (at least in the U.S.).

Not if you stay under the poverty line (if you make only a few thousand dollars a year).

My pa has a friend whose 60 years old with two PhDs and doesnt and hasnt had to pay it back because hes always made less than 10,000 a year.

?

I'm guessing finances isn't your strong suit?  What were you planning to do with that much money if you got it?  Put it in the freezer and loose value constantly?

You through it in large companies and you can make 10% per year.  You  put it in an index fund like vanguards' and you pay pretty much nothing for managment costs and everything, almost, is capital gains (unlike the retarded mutual fund scams).

Then you are making up to 75000 average a year
