Random Thoughts on Booze
    #9867401 -

I had the thought tonight that Booze is most valuable in the fact that if you drink enough, you have a strong excuse for your actions. A lot of times, especially when we're young, and repressed by the lives that we were forced to fit into at what amounts to gunpoint, we overdo it so that we can let loose. And this is mostly good. But for some reason, as adults, we're not allowed to need a time of letting loose, we have to "have it together" at basically all times, from 18 on.

Well, at 18 I was a mess. We all have stories, that's why we're here partially. But I needed to let loose of a lot of pain, and when I got drunk, people allowed it, and endorsed it, partly because they were drunk, and most of us shared a common pain. The problem is that if we were sober, it would have been considered "weak" or something along those lines to need to let go of our pain. I don't know. Alcohol has played an interesting role in my life, and the lives those closest to me. It's a tough thing to figure out. :shrug:

I just wish people would get it. End of rant. :cheers:

Its definitely a good release. But weed is even better i find. At the end of each week i get drunk and stoned. Releases all that built up tension and makes me feel rejuvenated for the week to come.

I find it incredibly annoying when people use alcohol as an excuse for their actions. A friend of mine put his bike through the basement window of another friends house, and he's in no trouble, no one is angry with him, they just put poly over the window and are forgetting about it.
Just because he was drunk
They say "it wasn't him that did it, it was the booze."
No it wasn't! He fuckin threw his bike through your window you idiot! That's not something to be taken so lightly.

I learned self control the hard way, I had alot of black outs, unexplained injuries, destroyed friendships and ruined opportunities because of booze.
I cut out hard liquor, and now all liquor in general.

Empty wallets, shitty mornings and alot of apologizing for shit I don't even remember. Fuck booze.

I've never had a spiritual or enlightening experience from alcohol. Ever.

no, using alcohol as an excuse is not ok or cool.  if you think that you punching someone in the face is ok because you were drunk, you are wrong as shit.

i drink, but not a lot.  i don't really like most drunk people and if they became violent or turn into an asshole, i will leave.  i despise when people use booze as a reason to be a fucktard.

Getting sloppy drunk with friends and family is fun, and the people who scowl at drunks disapprovingly typically aint much fun.

People need to let go and do what they want and if you can transcend the obligations, expectations, and drudgery of daily life, regardless of how you do it, that is indeed a spiritual experience by some definitions.

Can't remember who said it, but I like the quote that goes something like, 'Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.'  The context of the quote is something about speaking your mind, but I think this can apply in a broader sense as well.

Sorry to ramble, but I'm drunk, so you'll have to forgive me.

The point of what I was getting at is, people are so pent up from having to put on masks that alcohol becomes a convenient excuse, or reason depending on what happens while they are drinking, to "be" a certain way.

I wasn't condoning it, I just find it interesting and sad that so many people are obviously exhausted from life that when they have some alcohol in them, they change so dramatically.

I haven't been drunk in a long time, and I rarely drink any more. We went out to a brewery last night, and it was interesting watching people and how they acted as they got more in them.

I feel great, but I want to drink booze. I'm pretty sure I'll feel worse if I do. This is my third day alcohol-free, and the first day in a long time that I woke up in a good mood. Alcohol sucks anyway, it just gets me into trouble. Who needs trouble? And empty pockets?

...I didn't mean it booze, I love you. But if I drink you now, what will become of my night? Quiet anger and a dull brain? Well, duller, that is. I don't need that. What I need is clarity, something you'll never understand. It's not in your nature to understand complex ideas. You just listen, but don't absorb, and find a way to make even a religious debate all about the soul that drank you. You could convince an ant that it's the most important creature on Earth - but therein lies your problem. You're a liar and you'll never admit it.

On top of that, you encourage warfare and adultery! What kind of chemical are you, my dear alcohol? You've ruined great men and women alike, yet your fans are always growing in number. Somehow you convince the best of us that we need you. Well, my poisonous friend, not tonight. At least not right now.

Alright - you pulled my leg.

Dear Booze, you win - I lose. No more than a half hour after degrading you in writing, here I am in one of your fine establishments. They serve you all day!

From six pm until nine pm, folks are encouraged to drink you in excess. I suppose this is to replace the stench of office sweat with bad breath and a lack of common sense. It's a fair trade-off in most cases, since you seem to have a way of making good people forget they're trapped. It's nice of you.

Also, the people here really know how to make you taste good. It's a challenge - you're disgusting. Our bodies actually - very quickly - learn to reject certain forms of you. Early on, my body decided that when you're dressed up in your clear Russian gown, you are not to be trifled with. It tries to make me remember your wrong-doings, immediately forcing up a teary gag and a shudder. These are its ways of alluding to your tricks. You seem nice enough at first - like now - but soon you turn the tables and laugh as you're freed into the sewer system. Shame on you. Marijuana would never do that to me.

But you know what? I forgive you. C'mere.

I've never had one from opiates, speed, benzos either. What's your point here?

It's unhealthy to deal with your pain through drugs. You should find a way to "let loose" sober. If your friends think you're "weird" or dumb for doing that, then tell them to go fuck themselves and get new friends.

Dealing with deep emotional issues through drugs is fine, but not if you feel like that's the only socially acceptable outlet. That sets the stage for lifetime addictions..... and that just sucks.

Agreed

Alcohol can be bad along with so many other drugs, especially when emotional problems are present. It frustrates me when I see people go through complete fuck up episodes while binging on (insert substance). But hey, we are all in this journey together and some just take longer than others to figure out their weakness/problems.

I guess we just need more love.:shrug:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.

Alcohol is one of those interesting evils, it provides a great escape from the pain of being human......but like many things, over do it and your fucked.

To many people use it as a crutch. I enjoy getting shit faced once in a while. But bottom line is alcohol is horrible for you and is labeled a poison for a reason, thats what it is.

Be careful, there are better ways for emotional release
