In fairness to Rick Santelli, he has been opposed to any and all of the government "bailouts".  Still, I find it interesting that the mortgage "bailout" brings the most emotional responses from the majority of people.  They get more pissed off thinking their neighbor(s) might be getting help on their mortgage(s) than at the big banks when the free TARP money was passed around.  Interesting people want to blame the little guy for being stupid for buying a house they couldn't really afford when the big banks/mortgage brokers were passing the money out like candy to children at Halloween.  There was a reason your mother took that candy bag away from you to be doled out responsibly later, she knew that otherwise you would eat it all Halloween night and get sick.  Just like all the people who are sick upside down on their mortgages for big houses they really shouldn't have been allowed to get a mortgage for in the first place.

There's a couple of problems with the comparisons of the housing bailout and the Wall St. bailout. First being, weather you like this statement or not, Wall St. has the talent to turn this bailout money into profits and can then pay it back at a profit to the government. No matter the bad decisions made previously that have gotten us to this point. The Harry Homeowner that has refied numerous times to put in a pool, new furniture, pay credit card debt, new vehicles, etc., more than likely does not have the talent, discipline, or resources in order to do the same. Especially considering the poor conditions of the economy. That's a simple fact, although an ugly one.

Second. The systemic risks are far more terrible simply allowing these entities to fail on Wall St., than the systemic risks are than allowing the Harry Homeowner's to get the boot out of their homes. You're talking about equity and bond holding money being flushed down the toilet, massive job losses, more and more contraction of manufacturing, retailing/wholesaling, etc.,  allowing these Wall St. entities to go under. People loosing literally 100's of billions of dollars when these entities go bankrupt or are nationalized. This would be a terrible way to go about it, as the stupid Hoover maneuver proved well. He too thought that discipline was needed allowing entities to fail, and that thought process led to The Great Depression. There's no doubt about it that we would be in depression status right now if all of these entities were allowed to go under. The systemic risks of allowing these Wall St. entities to go under FAR outweigh the risks of allowing the homeowners to go under. A huge, huge difference. Take a look at what happened to Japan in the 90's. Japan was sluggish on reacting fiscally and monetarily to the mess they had encountered and look at them now. 10 years down the tubes and still getting worse because of what's happening now globally.

You can't sit there and say that the talents or discipline of the Wall St. "fascists" has been discredited because of this debakel. You can't point fingers at everyone of them just because a few of them screwed up severely.

Let's say you had $100,000 and someone had a gun pointed at your head telling you to invest it (in anything) and to succeed doing so. There's 2 groups consisting of 10 Wall St. guys and 10 Harry Homeowner guys in default to pick from. Who are you gunna trust more in succeeding? Not the group of defaulting Harry Homeowner guys, that's for damn sure.

EPA arrests CNBC's Rick Santelli

By Scott Ott, Examiner Columnist
- | 2/24/09 8:01 AM

CNBC reporter Rick Santelli, whose passionate rant about the Obama housing rescue plan, and call for a "Chicago Tea Party" became a viral internet video, was arrested today by armed officers from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) covert special forces division.

Held without bail at an undisclosed "brownfield site", Santelli faces several counts of reckless endangerment of wildlife habitat after he threatened to rally capitalists to dump "derivative securities" into Lake Michigan as a way of re-enacting the Boston Tea-Party protest of 1773.

"Mr. Santelli is certainly entitled to his wacky economic opinions," said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, "But if he had gone to the EPA website, clicked the regulations link, downloaded the document, printed it out and read it...he would have realized that dumping toxic assets into a lake is expressly forbidden. Read the document, Mr. Santelli. Read it."

Gibbs added, "I don't know where Mr. Santelli lives, but apparently, like most conservative critics, he has a callous disregard for the lives of the waterfowl, sturgeon and fresh-water mollusks that inhabit the Lake Michigan watershed. If the Chinese were shipping us toys made with derivative securities, we'd recall our ambassador and cut off relations. If R.J. Reynolds were mixing derivative securities with its tobacco, cigarettes would be banned. Do you know what's in those securities, Mr. Santelli?"

The press secretary later said that final question was rhetorical since, like the recently-passed stimulus act, "no one really knows what's in there yet."

Americans throw more than 40 tea parties

Citizens answer Rick Santelli's call, unite for nationwide protest

Americans are saying enough is enough to extravagant government spending and throwing more than 40 tea parties across the nation in protest of the recent bailouts and "stimulus" package.

Kellen Giuda, an architect who was recently laid-off, is organizing his own New York City tea party. He has invited several prominent guest speakers, including politicians, elected officials, an author, blogger, a bond trader and a former contestant on "America's Next Top Model" to speak out against excessive government spending.

"I saw Rick Santelli's rant, live, and thought it was awesome," he told WND. "All of this fiscal irresponsibility is absurd."

He continued, "Then I started hearing about tea parties, and I decided to do it. It's really exciting. There are a lot of people getting involved now."

As WND reported, CNBC analyst Rick Santelli became a YouTube sensation after he spoke out against President Obama's proposed $275 billion deficit-financed homeowner bailout plan and other massive spending measures with a call for a new "tea party" from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Giuda is working with Alex Zablocki, top staffer for New York State Sen. Andrew Lanza, to coordinate the New York event. Possible speakers include Kathleen Troia McFarland, deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs at the Pentagon from 1982 to 1985 under President Ronald Reagan; Brett Joshpe, conservative author and graduate of Harvard Law School; Sara-Racey Tabrizi, "America's Next Top Model" contestant and professional model and various elected officials.

The tea party will take place Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. in City Hall Park in Manhattan.

Giuda said similar nationwide events are becoming very popular as a growing number of Americans prepare to take to the streets.

"It's time we start fighting back with our own voice," he said. "America has a history of revolting and standing up to unfair taxation. It's really fun and exciting

Meanwhile, outraged citizens are organizing more than 40 tea party events across the nation. Official sponsors of the events include Top Conservatives on Twitter, Smart Girl Politics, Don'tGo Movement, FreedomWorks and Americans for Prosperity. Most of the tea parties will take place Feb. 27.

Floridians Unite is looking down the road and planning an Orlando Tea Party for March 21.

"This will be a peaceful rally to unite our voices and express the love that we have for our great nation and the principles it was founded on," states the Floridians Unite website. "We want to make our politicians hear loud and clear that we are tired of the bailouts, the wasteful Washington spending and the push towards the socialization of this country! We want less government! We want to decide where our hard-earned money goes instead of the elitist politicians in Washington taking it and using it to buy votes, doling it out to special interest groups and pork barrel projects! We want our constitutional rights preserved and protected, not trampled on!"

At the Pittsburgh, Pa., Tea Party on April 11, organizers are inviting people to help them reenact the Boston Tea Party of Dec. 16, 1773, by bringing one tea bag each to Point State Park with plans of actually tossing the tea into the Alleghany, Monongahela and Ohio rivers.

"Somebody in our government needs to finally pay attention," said Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck on his radio program last week. "It is what I've been talking about that was coming for a very long time, and that is disenfranchisement, which will turn into anger and then turn into God knows what."

CNBC analyst Rick Santelli is hoping those demonstrations will result in real change.

During the televised segment where Santelli revived the term "tea party," CNBC panelist Wilbur Ross, chairman and CEO of WL Ross & Co., interjected, "Rick, I congratulate you on your new incarnation as a revolutionary leader."

"Somebody needs one," Santelli responded. "I'll tell you what, if you read our Founding Fathers, people like Benjamin Franklin and Jefferson, what we're doing in this country now is making them roll over in their graves."
