i'd have to say that my favorite david lynch movie
is either blue velvet
or elephant man
has anyone seen that?
elephant man is top notch
and not a typical lynch movie (ie extremely abstract plot, weird dialogue)
it's one even people who aren't totally enthused by avant-garde film
can enjoy IMO

I love Lynch. I always feel like he just took a big poo in my head after watching one of his movies. I just did a Lynch marthon the other night in fact. We watched On the Air, Mulholland Drive, and Hotel Room.

Even the movie he did for disney "The Straight Story" was good. Of course at least this one you could understand with out hurting yourself.

that's the same way i felt about elephant man
a great insight into the way lynch structures his films
for a lynch newb to watch--it makes a great introduction
before moving into some of the more abstract stuff

i know this thread is really old..but i don't care....

i just saw Mulholland Dr. and it is the first Lynch film I've seen...

that was the fucking weirdest thing. everything was pretty fucking weird up until they opened the blue box...but then after that it was non sense.

can someone make any sense of this shit at all? or did i just witness some crazy trip that i will never make sense of?

I will explain Mulholland Drive to you tommorow. that is the film that started my David Lynch obsession. I actually think that is his most sensical films, though the scenes are all out of order.

Lynch is the man!!

I'm a huge David Lynch Fan!  I think Lynch is almost suited better to the psychedelics thread lol

No ones mentioned 'Inland Empire'?

I haven't seen Mulholland Drive recently but here is the rundown of what is happening and if you watch it again you can kind of pick up on these ideas-

The story is basically about a girl (Naomi Watts) that is jealous of her friends success.  I remember the opening scene with the dancing having significance.  I think the party at the end of the movie where you see the girl depressed is actually in the beginning of the movie- another very significant moment.

Betty (naomi watts) tries to order a hit man to kill rita or camila (forgot the names) and the hitman fails which is what leads her to her eventual suicide. It is important to realize that a lot of the scenes are dreams- but the scene where she is in the resturant talking about the hitman is real.

The scene where the girl is singing silencio is a key scene and is actually a dream, and she starts crying because the dream is ending.

Sorry I can't give you a better explanation but I think if you take my clues to think about and watch the movie again, you will understand it much better.  let me know if what I wrote down helps at all, I haven't seen the film in awhile so it is hard to remember all the details

One more important clue- I think Aunt Ruth is Betty's dream aunt, but in reality they are not related.

TameMe let me know if my clues have helped you make sense of the movie.
