David Lynch films
    #2443415 - 03/17/04 03:04 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I don't much like David Lynch movies. I have seen Wild at Heart, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway and Dune. He's really artsy and that's cool but after a while it's really draining. He takes a lot of care about small details of sound and stretches out the sparse dialogue. It seems to me like his movies have so little content, it's just all production. Lots of random stuff happens, you can't just have all this random stuff with no explanation. I don't really know how to articulate well why I don't like his movies but they make me feel bored and or sick. I'd be interested to know why any fans like his work.

someone tried to define what art was to me once in the museum of modern art, paris. he asked me, when you look at this painting (a painting that my first impression was a kid made it) what do you feel? . i said i feel confused. he replied, that is exactly what makes it art. so i concludet what is art for some is just a painting for others and vica versa.

you said it yourself, david lynch makes you feel sick. and what a brilliant artist he is that makes you feel that way.

No, not at all what I take away from his movies. To me, they're psychotropically refreshing at their outset, but I would have to assume he is, on some level, a huge mystery buff. Do a search for explanations and discussions of his films and see them in a new light (i.e., the Mulholland Drive DVD comes with clues to help you unravel the narrative). Prickly ash. This makes his movies a lot of fun for me.

Mullholland Drive =

I didnt get it at all until I read a guide to it. I think it is a little over the top when a movie needs a guide.

Some people like mystery and things you have to think about.

David Lynch is one of the most amazing directors/writers/producers of all time.

His movies give me an uneasy feeling from beginning to end, and I find that fascinating.

Eraserhead is scarier than any movie I have ever seen; and it's not even a horror flick.

He tears into your deepest fears so subtlely.
