Where do I find some wheat straw

I cant seem to find an answer using search so...??? And is there an alternative?? Can I use hay or something?? Thx.

Do you have any horse stables around you...or some pet shops? They will have it.

Yeah, you use hay, but, I hear its more prone to be contaminated, and does nto retain the same amount of water.

Hay usually contams before anything interesting happens.... :smile:

But as for where to get straw....Check out local agricultural feed shops.  The places that sell to farmers...you can probably get some really good cheap rye grain there as well.

I've even seen small bundles in craft shops (usually overpriced though)

Oh, and any grain straw will do, be it: Wheat, Barley, Oat etc.

Look in the yellow pages under "feed". I got beautiful wheat straw in 75 lb bails. I untied them, got some big garbage bags, double bagged the stuff (took about 6 big bags for each bail) and threw the bags in the storage bldg out back. Should last me for months, since I got 2 bails.

hey dood, dontcha know its halloween season! There's baled up wheat straw all over the place! they got it stacked up at every pumkin patch. seems like people like to use this stuff for halloween decoration or making scarecrows. i got three densly packed cubes all tied to one big pile that measured about my height for three dollars at homedepot, and i tell you these things a densely packed, they explode when you cut the string. im sure gonna have fun outdoors this spring!

Watch out. There is a big DIF between
WHEAT STRAW & HAY .

Often, it is HAY your talking about - outside. HAY is contam prone. Better to be safe & know what your getting, rather than be sorry ~~` later.

I found some timothy hay at the pet shop, so I figures since there is a teck called that, I should buy it. I hope it works.

hay sucks. my local lowe's and home depot both carry bails of wheat straw. do you have any farm supply stores nearby.

Ya theres lots of decorations with staw in them. you shouldn't have to worry about getting hay to bad cause hay is mostly used for animal feed were as straw is used for everything.
