indoor cyans w/ wheat straw?

I've read about growing pan cyans online, but dung is always promoted as the only workable fruiting substrate.. In TMC, it clearly says "Fruiting substrate: Pasteurized wheat straw; horse manure/straw compost." have any of you found success using wheat straw? Maybe using the "fermentation tek" ( not quite made into a written up procedure yet ) found in the gourmet forum could substantially help?

aye, but I specifically want to know about wheat straw ( and any close relatives.. someone told me timothy hay is the same thing, but I don't quite think so ). I'd case with peat anyway, TMC writes that it requires a casing as well

Straw not HAY.
Straw contaminates ALOT easier then Manure. That is why almost everyone reccomends manure. It also yields less then manure.
If you can get manure, USE IT. If you can't, then go for the GREEN, I mean Straw.

sure it works - but like teonan says it can contaminate easier. bulk manure teks have always worked wonders for me.

70% wheat straw+30% cow manure with 50+50 casing works well for my cyans...

I've never had contamination problems with straw. I have had some ammonia-smelling manure before...
So to compromise, I've been using 3:1 manure:straw ratio. This has been the best substrate so far, for some reason.
Then again, I don't even grow anymore. College beckons.
