gold vs platinum
    #9819251 -

I have $10,000 cash that I need to invest before this market crashes. I was looking on http://www.monex.com/prods/gold.html and a few other places.

Where do you recommend buying from? Is platinum a better investment or should I just buy a bunch of gold? There is a guy on ebay selling 100g pampsuiss bars too.

any "brand" better then another?

should I get .999 or .9999?

Should I wait for it to drop? I saw back in '94 it was like $400 an O.

any help greatly appreciated.

im also wondering if gold is going to go back down.  i think i've read that april and may historically are it's "low" months.

im not sure about platium, but these sound good for an investment...

"All the platinum ever mined would fit in the average living room!

Annually, only about 133 tons of platinum are mined, compared to 1,782 tons of gold."

source... http://www.penoir.com/platinum.htm

right now silver and gold are having a rally, so you might want to wait...but then again, they may not come back down...

You have $10k at a time when the markets are as low as they have been in a decade and you want to buy gold which is high right now???

You understand the whole "But Low, Sell High" ideology?

In line with automan's comments, gold is now near the psychologically significant (and previous top) level of $1000/oz.  If it fails to break above that level, we could see the previous metal trading back down to $800/oz very easily.  In the very least, don't put all your eggs in one basket.  Go ahead and buy some gold, but keep some cash for other purchases, perhaps some beaten down stocks to throw in the mix?  I would suggest investing your money in high yielding companies with healthy balance sheets, proven earnings, low debt to cash and good cash flow (all of these factors will help assure you that the dividend is not at risk of being cut).  Meanwhile, the dividend will provide some downside protection as well as recurring income.  I already hold positions in the following stocks and am looking to increase my exposure at the following levels:
  • Altria (MO) @ $15 with an 8.5% annual yield
This is a tobacco company, known best for the Marlboro brand.

  • Verizon (VZ) @ $26.50 with an 6.9% annual yield
    This is a telecom/cell/technology company.

  • BP plc (BP) @ $40 with a 8.4% annual yield
This is an integrated oil company, headquartered in the UK.

  • Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (KMP) @ $45 with a 9.3% annual yield
This is a natural gas pipeline/transportation company, gets paid on volume of transports, not the underlying commodity price.

I am extremely confident that a 5 year+ investment in the aforementioned names will be a safe and rewarding investment, especially relative to the majority of other stocks and asset classes available.

You're welcome.  Just remember to do your own research though! Because good advice is one thing, but a personal understanding is much better!

I have updated my Stock Market Primer for clarity and to include new information with a slight emphasis on how it relates to the current situation in the markets.

I'd suggest (re)reading it!
