Not true. If you go through a bondsman they except charge and they go and post the cash at the jail to get you out for a 10% fee. I know this from experience.

if you're careful you can put almost all your expenditures on CC and pay it off regularly thereby avoiding interest and boosting your credit rating rather quickly. i have it pretty nice, my job reimburses all my job-related expenses of which there are roughly $3K a month. i put every bit of it on credit and pay the balance with my weekly expense checks.

remember one thing. everything you put on CC is basically on your "permanent record". after some time that record becomes a liability if your paranoid. I mean, "they" can see where you're going, what you're eating, what you wipe you're ass with, what VD you have, etc.

CCs are THE way to go for internet purchases and other situations where you might have to dispute the charges. i recently got ripped on a mattress and my CC company just credited it right back when I called them about it.

you should get yourself a southwest cc.

you earn credits towards free flights with it
as you spend.

I use a CC for the same thing...strictly business
expenses...I even get double points when I use
my SW card to buy SW tickets.

I can then sell my free roundtrip vouchers for
300 a pop.

it's a sweet deal...

united has a similar one, but they charge an annual
fee.

well everything in that case is self control...

The point I'm making is that in a bind you'll put a bill, gas or maybe something else of necessity on the card and get caught up chasing debt from then on. Far different from going on a shopping spree buying the things 'I just can't live without' (wants).

It's like starving and then eating unhealthy food. (which happens to be healty in that given situation) Then someone coming along and saying, "that person has no self control."

Having debt is not an indicator of no self control.

it is if you go beyond the level of paying for
necessities with the card and chasing debt.

why doesn't the person have the self control
to live within their means?

Good point.
But, we all know life isn't so cut and dry. It's live and learn. I would consider it a thing of ignorance rather than self control.

I use my credit card for pretty much all my purchases. All my bills, gas, groceries etc. go on the card. I pay off my balance in full each and every month and I do that online as well (since the card is linked to my checking account). It really makes life much, MUCH easier. It also allows me to track my spending. If I use cash the only records I have are ATM withdrawals. I end up at the end of the month going: "Where did I spend that $20?, I see the withdrawal but have no clue what I used it for". With the card I have a record of all my expenditures, so instead I say: "Damn, another $20 at porno palace, a gf might be cheaper".

Someone mentioned reward cards in a previous post. They're nice because you might as well get something for using a card. Keep in mind however that "reward cards" usually have enormous interest rates; so if you don't pay the balance you get ass raped (rather than the normal raping done by a normal CC).

I started with an airline card and realized it would take me forever to get enough points to go anywhere. SO I switched to a 1% cash back card. Now I put about $600 a month on my card which I pay off in full each month so I make a whopping $6 a month for using the card. It sounds trivial, BUT if you make a larger purchase you'll get more. FOr instance, I have about 2K saved for a new TV. I'll get 1% of that just for using my CC to buy the TV instead of cash. Not much, but it'll buy me batteries for the TV remote.

Buy like $100-$300 worth of stuff with it but don't max it out. Then pay $20 more than the minimum payment every month until paid off, repeat.

The object is NOT to pay the card off in full each month if you are attempting to build a credit rating. The goal is to carry a balance, but keep it a small balance, and make regular timely monthly payments higher than the minimum payment.

Keep on doing this and your credit rating will soar and more credit card offers will come. When they do, do not accept all of them, but only 2-3 more at first. Then use the same strategy with the new cards until the platinum card offers come.

By then you'll be able to finance a car, house, whatever you want.

Also, NEVER use a credit card to obtain a cash advance.

I've always found this interesting. You gain MORE credit by carrying a balance (rather then paying it off in full). Whats the rationale behind this? (the only thing I could come up with was demonstrating the ability to manage a rolling debt).

well, as i understand it, having a $0 balance is akin to bad credit. it's a liability. you could, theoretically, go out and max your card overnight.

If you want a higher limit then max that bitch out and pay it all off every month. They'll see that you're too responsible with your card and give you more slack to hang yourself.

Seriously, I think CC companies were created to show how irresponsible everyone is and that that's why communism sucks... but not really.

I almost forgot...

The reasoning is simple. People who pay off their cards every month do not make card issuing banks any money.

It is the most sensible thing for you to do financially, therefore they don't like it.

You want to make yourself appear to them as someone who will maintain balances on their cards, but who always pays the payments, so therefore they think you'll pay them assloads of interest over the years, then they will try to load you down with credit cards.

I know, it's stupid. People who pay off their cards in full each month are actually seemingly to me to be the MOST worthy of trust. But the credit agencies disagree.

Be careful with credit.  I know people who are SLAVES to their plastic and far in debt.

I use my card sparingly through the month and then pay it in full EVERY month, never carrying a balance over and my limit raised from $200 to $5000 in about one year.  I had to call the company and tell them to bring it down because carrying 5 G's in my pocket didn't seem very safe like if my wallet was lost, etc.

It's kind of funny though and a little stupid now that I think of it, but I got pulled over on I5 heading to Vancouver because the Canadian's customs officer thought I appeared drunk.  Well, I wasn't drunk, but really high on morphine.  The cop was threatening to seize my car and shit.
Anyway, after my friends and I got a little lippy with the agents, they DID seize my car because they found a few xannie bars in an unmarked bottle.  They fined me and said I would have to pay to get my car back.
I walked up to the desk with about three canuck agents staring me down like I had tried to smuggle cartel load worth of shit across and I pulled the Mastercard out of my wallet and asked
"Can I charge it, dude?"
Priceless.

Its pretty simple.

Buy something, pay the balance as soon as you receive it. Look at it as a bank card, and you'll have no troubles.
