I think jobs...
    #9825933 -

should be evaluated by mental/physical stress and people should be paid based on these two factors.

Stress levels depend on the person doing the job, not the job.  I am surrounded by people who freak out over the same tasks and workload I have everyday, and I experience very little stress.

Where would the incentive be to go to university and get a good degree if you can make 100k a year cooking in a pub?

I hate it when people that have little or no education and no chance at advancement in their "career" say stuff like "real people work all the time. We don't have time for shit like that"  I actually heard some dumb lady say that in line at the store. She was referring about nintendo wii.  Everyone looked at her like she was crazy.

I've encountered a lot of people who take pride in having a difficult life, and having to work themselves to exhaustion just to barely scrape by.  It doesn't make sense to me. But I guess thats the only way they can cope, since at this point they can't afford to go to college or anything to try and better themselves.  No one really wants to have a terribly difficult and stressful job. But the people who have those jobs seem to take some weird sick pride in it.

America celebrates stress as if it's some indicator of success.  The most effective people I have met are remarkably calm.

i have noticed this, as well... a calm mind deals with things better than a stressed mind... nothing against a little pressure here and there, but no stress for me, thank you...

Stress is all in how you approach the situation.

You have the right to starve to death just like every other life form on this planet. Food is not a right, shelter is not a right, happiness is not a right, you have to strive for it and work for those things if you want them. The only meaning to life is to live, everything else is arbitrary. Our easy-living pampered lives have helped us to forget this.

Correct, but all the alternatives have been made illegal and taken away......there is no choice when that`s your only option.

As Robert Nozick put it, the notion of inherent rights are "nonsense on stilts", so in that respect I agree with you BM...
However, that being said, we have the ability to create the world as we see fit. The abundance of resources on earth coupled with our unique creative and cognitive capacities allow us to in fact live in a world where food, shelter etc are, for all practical purposes rights. Despite the fact that these rights may not be inherent to our existence as hyper evolved chimps, arguably our evolution (now manifested as cultural and tech advancements) can manifest itself as the creation of rights.
Simply put, would you RATHER live in a world where food, shelter and healthcare are guaranteed rights by the collective, or would you RATHER have to live in the concrete and glass equivalent of a jungle? The choice is ours (collectively) so I dont think that we should be dismissive of the idea of guaranteeing these things for ourselves, even if they aren't inherent.
My $.02...
