I've been offered a job!!

I had an interview this morning about 25 minutes from my home for a part time nanny position watching a 3 month old girl named Eva. She's so cute The hours would be Tues-Thurs from 8:15 to 5:45. They called me like 10 minutes after I left and offered me the job I have an interview at 4pm today as well that I told them I would feel irresponsible not attending, and that I would let them know tonight. I'm kind of torn - the job I'm interviewing for later is full time (which equals more money obviously). But the part time job would allow me to maybe take some classes.
Anywho - that's my big news for today. I guess I'll find out tonight what I'm gonna do!!

The job I'm interviewing tonight is similar to the one I interviewed for today. Caring for a 3 month old girl. However, the one tonight would be a full time gig...which would be nice. But the one I was offered includes 3-4 weeks paid vacation, as well as paid sick days. Hmmmm

Nice that your dad would pick eye candy and not whoever was the most qualified to care for his child
And I disagree, I don't think it's an easy job...not if you do it right.

They certainly don't seem loaded. There house is nice, but not gigantic by any means, and if they were loaded, I bet they'd pay me more than $12 an hour cash

I'm replying to myself here, I guess looking for some advice, or just to put my thoughts down on a page. I have awful insomnia right now and can't fall back to sleep, so why not post
I got both jobs that I interviewed for yesterday (Sunday), and I also got offered a job that I interviewed for on Saturday, but I turned that one down. The money wasn't close to what the job would entail, and the kids were older, and I was really looking to care for an infant (they're so much easier than chasing toddlers around, and I like the idea of making an impact from the beginning of their life, if that makes sense).
So both jobs are actually fairly similar - similar distance from home, same hourly rate, each family only has 1 child, both are girls, both are 3 months old. Both families are so nice, and I felt really comfortable around each of them. Both babies are happy babies, and really damn cute, too
One job is part time, tues-thurs., 28.5 hrs a week. I don't mind the idea of having 2 days off a week, I could maybe take some college courses or pick up a second job down the road. Also, this family as I mentioned would pay me while they're away on vacation which is 3-4 weeks of the year, and any time I wanted to take in addition to that, that didn't overlap their vacation time, I could take unpaid with some notice to them. This couple would want me to do light housework stuff while the baby was napping, like clean her bottles, tidy up toys, little stuff like that.
The real big deal to me is the extra money that would come from more hours. I feel like it's imperative that I buy myself health insurance, which is ridiculously expensive, it's like $400 a month I would take the part time job, but I'm not sure I could afford health insurance as well as my monthly bills/living expenses. Quite the predicament. I have a phone call in to the woman who offered me the position (I told her I'd call her after my 2nd interview), left her a message at home, and when I speak to her I'm going to be honest and voice my concerns about being able to adequately support myself. Maybe they can adjust the hourly rate enough to make it worth taking a part time position over a full time one.
The full time one, which the couple offered me before I even left the house, is an awesome option. The couple is so laid back, and SO funny. We talked about movies and stuff through like 1/2 of the interview. I noticed that they had Requiem for A Dream in their DVD collection The father's name is Jackie Robinson, which I find hilarious. One of my references who they contacted is a huge baseball fan, who asked him like 5 times if that was really his name He made me promise not to tell her that he can't hit a ball for shit They told me they don't want me doing any housework, even while she's napping. I was like Ok, so what would you want me doing. They said "Watch a movie or play on the internet". That certainly sounded nice, to have a bit of downtime.
They sent me an email tonight just to thank me for coming and meeting them, here's some of the text of it - by the way, I'm sorry if this post is long, rambling, and of no interest to anyone else. I realize that may be the case, but like I said, I can't sleep and it's helping me to weigh the pros and cons (again.)
Anyway, here's the email -
Dear Liz, Thank you so much for coming over today! We had such a great time with you. After you left, Jackie and I could not stop talking about you (and Genevieve, too!). We were so impressed! We both think you would be a wonderful positive influence in Genevieve's life. If there is anything that we can do to help make this work for you, please let us know. We are very flexible and are open to discussing any aspect of the job to make you feel comfortable. Thank you again for your time and for sharing your experience with us. We're thrilled to have met you! Sincerely, Amy, Jackie and Genevieve
They're so sweet and sincere. I wrote back telling them about my health insurance dilemma, and also asked them about vacation time, which I forgot to bring up at the interview. I guess we were too busy talking about baseball and movies. I'm going to decide today one way or another, and either way, I feel like I'm letting someone down, which makes me feel awful I know it's inevitable and not my "fault", but I hate disappointing people who have been nice to me.
If you've read this, thank you for doing so, and please feel free to comment on what job YOU would take, or ask any questions, give any advice, etc.
Liz

Hey Liz...
It sounds like either job would be a good fit, and that you're having more trouble with the idea of having to let ONE of them down, which is inevitable at this point. So don't stress... no point.
Weighing the pro's and con's, I'd say you just have to decide if you'd rather a) go back to school and work part time or b) get full time work.
I'm pretty sure you can get cheaper health insurance through school, btw, so maybe your money concerns are a moot point. Also, school loans are low interest and a good investment if you follow through.
On the other hand, maybe you've found a new carreer right here, and you don't need to go back to school.
Crossroads are a bitch, aren't they? I'm totally in the same boat. I set some basic premises, and now I'm just letting things unfold to show ME which way I am going.
Good luck hon, I'm sure you'll be happy either way.

Huh. I didn't even think of the option of getting health insurance through school - is that possible if i'm only going part time?? I might even apply for free care at my health center, maybe I'll do that. Suffer's mom offered yesterday to pay for me to go to one of those Kaplan or Princeton Review courses to try to get even better SAT scores and apply to some schools part time. Maybe I'll take her up on it.
I just spoke to the woman about the part time job and expressed my concern to her about maybe not being able to afford health insurance while only working 28.5 hours a week. She said that she would love to try to make something work, and to let her know if a few more hours a week would make enough of a difference to count. I told her I'd call her tonight or tomorrow.
I know I'm over analyzing this - I always do. And I know that it's not my fault that I have to choose one - it just sucks. I almost wish I wasn't offered one of them, because I hate decisions.
I'm waiting to hear back from the full time place regarding whether or not I would get paid vacation/sick time, and if so, how much.
Hopefully they get back to me today, and I can make a decision and be done with this, so that I actually get some sleep tonight.

Sounds like you already have your mind made up. Take the full time, you like the people, it offers a little extra cash, and in your down time you could work on internet courses.

Yes, they'll be paying me in cash at either job. I'm waiting to hear back from the full time position regarding vacation benefits and I'll make my decision from there.
