One last question and Ill let you be. What did YOU use to seal the pipe and the greenhouse plastic?

And thank you, babe, that would be nice if they did, for I own no tools whatsoever aside from a couple screwdrivers.

why are both CM and US needed, will an US not provide any fae at all. i've been reading along and after a few threads like this i still don't get needing both. not that i doubt it, just don't get how it works.

From what I understand, they complement each other. The CM is great at supplying FAE, but not so on the humidity without running quite a long while. The US is great with humidity and FAE, but is too strong to run for long periods at a time (30 minutes on, few hours off). I can be wrong though...

That's correct. I've heard of people getting away with just a CM but I never had much success with it by itself. Seems like it could work tho..

I built my own US from a fountain fogger and a plastic tub for cheaper than many of other US's I've seen out there, and I only have to refill it once every two weeks and not every day.

Here check it out:





Now, It's not going to work perfect for every setup but modifications can be made. I recommend it!

That's a damn nice setup HippieChick but its probably more complicated than what this guy is looking for. I do the ol' hose straight into the greenhouse from the humidifier thing and it works wonders for me. I just make sure I have a lot of air flowing through so it can all circulate without any stagnant air pockets. Plus, a setup like that may take up more space and be less stealthy.

I've always loved your grows though HippieChick, I actually ordered my greenhouse (used to have a martha) after reading one of your older posts. Thanks for the inspiration!

Tis that time of night where I sit back, let the wifey deal with the kid, and get my bake on. Having said that, is there anyway you could draw a quick schematic of your US and Coolmist setup? I could easily get a fogger like you mentioned in the future for far cheaper than a Vicks. And HippieChick, if you revisit this thread, or anyone else that may know the answer, what is this "salt test" Ive heard you mention for hygrometers?

I used a hole drill bit to drill tow 3/4 inch holes on each long end of the tub, and on the back end I drilled a much smaller hole for the cord of the fogger to go through. The fogger rests inside the tub with the lid gorilla taped on. I tape tubing on the CM output, attach to humidifier, then attach tubing on the other side and connect it to the greenhouse. With an airtight seal on the lid, the air can only go in on one side (from the CM) and out the other (into the greenhouse).

I'll eventually do a writeup but I don't feel like taking it all apart today. In due time....

I leave the CM running 24 hrs and have my homemade humidifier set to come on for 5 minutes every hour, works like a charm.

thank you both. it's funny how a couple of sentences can answer so much more than hours and hours research here. i guess it's more than just cultivating that takes good timing!:grin:
