Aw hell... the Tao Te Ching
    #959221 - 10/14/02 08:14 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

So I've been flipping through it alot lately.

It seems that
the One = the way

I can't see how this can be construed as a belief in God.
The way is that supreme awareness grounded in the our conscious perception. It IS mindfulness. It is NOT God. It is meta-consciousness... being aware of our own awareness and studying it NONSTOP. When one stops noticing is when one strays from the path. Take it all in... all the time. It's all about focusing on our perceptions... our thoughts... our minds... US. Egoism... not egoTism.

That's enough for now.

One more thing:

Is "the sage" good or evil (the example of what TO do or what NOT to do)?

Maybe some view "The Way" as equivalent to God.

Unless "some" change their definition of god, "some" would be wrong.

And what praytell is that fine dephining line between "egoism" and "egotism"

Not trying to be a smartass I am actually curious because I get accused of one or the other all the time.

Though many dictionaries state that egoism = egotism... they are either wrong or outdated.

*Egoism acknowledges the fact that one cannot avoid having a sense of self (without strong drugs). It refers to the more metaphysical concept of the ego... lose it (through meditation, dissociatives like Ketamine, etc.) and there is no "you" (at least, temporarily... permanent loss of ego earns you a straightjacket).
Ex: Dude, I took like 7 grams of dried psilocybin mushrooms and I saw myself turn into a cloud and float away.

*Egotism is an inflated sense of one's own importance; conceit. This utilizes the more familiar definition of "ego". Ex: That rapper has a huge ego (egotistical).

Thus egoist and an egotist are not the same thing.

I am so glad that someone posted this difference. I was sure that few knew it.

Tha, er, nevermind.

Cheers,

Well then.
After a binge of ego nullifying active substances for 3 months truly pilfered the first connotation^ from me, and indeed at the ripe age of 18 got me into the emergency room for a total and complete disassociative breakdown. The "result" I was aiming for i suppose...

And similarly after a binge of gratuitous sex and hedonism I abused the later beyond all tasteful reason and was generally ousted from social situations by most persons within a 3mile radius.

So I am proper bollocked by either one then. At least now I can properly explain why I don't give a toss anymore.
Where's my damn handbasket?

The Tao is beyond all concepts, yet it gives life to all concepts. God is also that in my mind. They are both just names for something that is indescribable. I think these arguments are silly.

We are all experiencing infinite refractions of the same thing. Call it source, tao, god or Brian if you like. Even though we may know this we still want people to look at our particular refraction, and admire it. I cant see anything wrong with that, as long as we remember even the best interpretations will be washed away like sandcastles on the shores of eternity eventually.

The models are only important until they have served their purpose.

IMHO, the Tao is not metaphysical... yet "god" most definitely is.

Damnit. I lost that link some time ago from a reformat. I read that Tao philosophy spawned chinese martials; tai chi and kung fu. Shaolin would be the oldest origin of propogating 'Tao' arts [metaphysical aspects].

One giant leap of transformation - from words to lethal killing blows.
