The Te of Piglet
    #326194 - 05/26/01 12:25 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

I just got done reading The Te of Piglet. It is great. The author uses piglet to show the power of the small in the world. Has anyone else read this book? The stories in it elate the teachings and lessons very well.

If you liked the Te of Piglet, you'd likely enjoy the Tao of Pooh. It was written before the Te of Piglet, and is a bit more. . .?pure?
The Te of P. is a bit more 'opinionated' for lack of a better term. Both are great books, I liked the Tao of Pooh better. In fact, it's one of my favorite books. We had fun at work identifying the Eyores, the Rabbits, and the Owls. The author really has a way of conveying deep thought in simplistic terms [a premise of both books!].
I'm glad to see others enjoy it

The above information is complete fiction.

I didn't like it. :(

For me, cracking open one of Benjamin Hoff's books is like opening a Christmas package containing a paint-by-numbers set based on the works of Claude Monet, accompanied by a little pamphlet that says, "Impressionism: Fun for the Whole Family!"

Hoff gives us a sort of Taoism for the Masses. The Masses of Asses. If the "Tao Te Ching" is like a tall glass of orange juice, let's say, then the "Tao of Pooh/Te of Piglet" is like that Sunny Delight stuff.

My $0.02.

I've been looking at the tao of pooh and i like some of the excerpts I see.

Everything has its own place and function. That applies to people, although many don't seem to realize it, stuck as they are in the wrong job, the wrong marriage, or the wrong house. When you know and respect your Inner Nature, you know where you belong. You also know where you don't belong.

Those who have no compassion have no wisdom. Knowledge, yes; cleverness, maybe; wisdom, no. A clever mind is not a heart. Knowledge doesn't really care. Wisdom does."

Are two brilliant quotes I've stumbled upon.

Read both Tao of Pooh and Te of Piglet back in the day...when approach with as light reading, both are pretty interesting.  There's also a book that approaches western philosophy on the same basis called Wisdom Of Pooh, Pooh and the Philosophers, all fun reads.
