A few words about war from Chapter 31 of the "Tao Te Ching"
written by Lao Tsu

"Weapons are instruments of fear; they are not a wise man's tools.
He uses them only when he has no choice.
Peace and quiet are dear to his heart,
And victory no cause for rejoicing.
If you rejoice in victory, then you delight in killing;
If you delight in killing, you cannot fulfill yourself...

This means that war is conducted like a funeral.
When many people are being killed,
They should be mourned in heartfelt sorrow.
That is why a victory must be observed like a funeral."

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

That is an excellent quote, you should post it in the political forum. The "Tao Te Ching" is a book that should be more widely read. I was reading it when my mother died, I found it very comforting.

Yes, this is a wonderful book. Here is a link to the Aleister Crowley translation.
