I thought I'd share a few pics from a recent trip down to Tazzy. They grow them everywhere this time of year often as far as the eye can see.

Ha Ha nah I didn't take any. I was only there for a few days staying with relatives so wouldn't have had a chance to have any. I had to catch a plane back home so it wasn't worth the risk. Although I did grab a few pods I found of some ornamentals I don't have.

These must be Thebaine rich poppies, no morphine in them. They´re bred for the pharmaceutical industries to make other opiates.

How can they really expect to contain these? In my OTHER poppy experience (the ones that we used to get in wild flower seed packs) they spread like wild fire. Now every house on my road has a few of them still left over from our original seeds haha.
Edit: I'd like to add that I know zero about poppies, as I'm deathly allergic to opiates anyway. If these ones grow totally different, excuse my ignorance.

I'm not so sure about that. I here from the locals that the poppies are good. Also the supermarket poppy seed Ive grown before which are a by product of these pharmaceutical grown ones have also been very good.

Yeah,I grew some McCormick brand Spice rack seeds from the supermarket last year, and they turned out being Tasmanian poppies, with at least 10 or more big pods per plant. They were also very potent.I've never grown a super market poppy seed that wasn't potent.

The seeds in the spice rack are viable? And are opium poppy seeds?
(Edit: Picture on the middle right is stunning. Absolutely beautiful, all of them.)

the spice rack seeds are not allways viable but ocasionaly they are. as for them being opium poppies those are the only kind that poppy seeds come from. the other species of poppy plant are completely different in structure and alkaloidal content.

Every spice rack poppy seed I've planted to this day have germinated. Most people don't know that you can grow potent opium poppies from spice rack seeds,or even know that they will germinate for that matter.I can tell you that they 100 percent will grow, and they will be potent.Buy the McCormick brand spice variety, and you wont be disappointed. It even states that they are in fact opium poppies on the McCormick web site Oh yeah, and they are organically grown in the Netherlands too. http://www.mccormickfoodservice.com/spiceindex.cfm?id=10728

some are thebaine, some are not, the only way to know is to test them... the ones grown in the uk where i live are certainly not thebaine and they look exactly the same as the ones in the OP.

i don't think that there are as many fields of thebaine poppies around as people would allow us to think... something tells me that it has been hyped up to put people off from stealing them...
