Here is another essay I wrote a few years back:
Logic is applying the mathematical way of thought to problems. The basis of spacial math, is euclidean geometry, where a straight line in n-dimensions never meets itself in n-dimensions and parallel lines never cross. So the logic that we use to interpret the 3-dimensional world we live in is based on this geometry. The first doubt that this could cast on logic is that one can prove all of geometry with a different initial assumption. Mathematicians have worked out geometries where a parallel line crosses once, twice and could theoretically be proven for any other original assumption. Another interesting, but unrelated thing about geometry, is that a straight line in n-dimensions when laid/drawn on an m-dimensional shape where m>n, can still be straight in n-dimensions while it can curve in m-dimensions. For example a line around a sphere could be straight in 2-dimensions, but in 3 it curves around the sphere.
This brings us to relativity, which in a lot of ways is as big a discovery as the world being shown to be round. Relativity shows us that mass, and to a much lesser extent energy bends the vary fabric of space time. Over very small portions (on the scale we inhabit) of space (with the exception of black holes) Space time is essentially flat and has therefore allowed us to classical sciences. However the idea that time is relative depending on speed (one year on a ship near the speed of light will take hundreds of earth years) and by being close to mass or energy. One of the interesting things about the fact that space time is curved is that curved space has non-euclidean geometry. So on a large scale, all of the basic geometry that governs spacial math and spacial logic is skewed. Does this mean that euclidean geometry does not apply? No, because the scale that we live our day to day lives and make our observations and the fact that we are not near black holes, means that our perceived patch of space time is essentially flat.
One thing that one can expect about a mind, it should also act on the rules of the universe. This is because all the experiences that one has, and all the information that one collects (not only consciously but also the plethora of information that gets filtered out before it reaches the conscience mind) will back this and the mind will wholly believe this. One Of the most noticeable affects of LSD (at least to me) is the bursting at the seems look that reality gets, where every straight line is bending away from each other. Another strange far less easily described affect that I get is the bending of logic, i conjunction a sense of time elongation. It as if I stepped out of our world into one that was no longer governed by the classical rules of physics. My hypothesis for this is that my mind realizes the incredible cognitive energy that LSD brings to my mind that it bends reality in a similar way. LSD effects the dopamine, serotonin, and adrenoreceptors, as well as glutamine release in the cortex. This causes a great deal of excitement (energy) in the brain.
While there is no evidence showing any real connection between relativity and lsd's effects. It is at least interesting to look at the similarities. It is obvious that lsd bends one's perception of time and space, as well as bending logic. It is also a fact that according to relativity mass and energy bend space time, and are a non-euclidean geometry, flying right in the face of logic.
I want to end this essay with a warning, this connection was thought up during a very boring 20 hr solo drive, and me being a physicist can effect everything, because who I am effects how my mind perceives reality.
