Finding the Weilii
    #948483 -

So alot of people been finding he Weilii around the Atlanta area.. But, nobody seems to give a range of where they grow... Could they grow.. say two hours south of atlanta? I really want to find these because I *need* something more potent. Also, how do you know if the neighborhood is 3-8 years old? Do you have to call the neighborhood owner?

just go to a neighborhood of a buisness park that you know is older than 3 years old-

i have the best luck looking around areas that have been put in by landscapers, especially where they have sprlinklers systems installed,on the edges of pine trees(most buisness parks will have trees in the middle of there lawn that have pine needles around the foot of the tree covering the roots of the trees)

most buisness's have sod instead of grass(bermuda, centipede) and the weilli love this

Are cubes just not good enough for ya?

I'm not sure that the age of the neighborhood has a whole lot to do with it. My theory is that it depends where the people get their sod from(provided they're growing in grass). We don't really know the range of weilii's yet, so its worth a try to go out and look.

Sounds like looking on small college campuses would be a good idea too.

Actually newer neighborhoods have everything to do with it! Thats the easiest eay to find them. Its easy to tell a new subdivision, its those houses that have sprung up all over GA that look like they are all cloned, have small yards, vinyl siding instead of wood and are all painted in shades of white and have fancy signs at the begining of the neighbor hood. To make sure its not too new I look and see if it still has price range signs at the begining of the neighborhood like "150's and up" type deals. You can find weilii in a wide range of habitats, its really suprising where you find them sometimes, but for easy to find consistent large fruitngs of weilii in their prime, new neighborhoods are the only places worth checking. If I spend atleast one hour checking new neighborhoods I always find atleast a few. I just drive really slow and glue my eyes to the grass lawns and before you know it theres a giant patch of 150 caps just barely poking there heads above the grass and a smile from ear to ear grows across you face  Its really that easy. About range I know the grow from cherokee county on down to about I-20 in the rockdale area, on over to athens, they've also been rumored to grow as far south as Macon but this wasn't confirmed. I'm sure the range is much more widespread than this, but these are the locatons that they have been recorded from, it wouldn't suprise me though if they grew in south carolina and alabama.

if these suckers grow in upstate sc, i'm gonna be the cat that finds them.

there are all sorts of new developements here from neighborhoods to businesses.  i'm hot on their trails and closing in fast.

by the way lk, you say you see them in the grass.....like right in the middle of the yard?  just popping their heads up???  so when you spot them, what catches your eye that they are weilli and not some other shroom?  granted, you probably just "know" by now, but what should i be looking for?  color? size?
