Weilii season has offically begun!!(PICS)

Today I actually put in some quality hunting time. I started off the day by finding two weilii in the backyard, then me and a friend went out looking for new patches/picking sites. We just drove around searching a few different neighborhoods. Eventually after an hour or so of looking we found our first mushroom, and then a few more, and a few more, they were everywhere! At the end of the day as it was starting to get dark we came back home and checked out my main patch here in my neighborhood, low and behold there were atleast 30 mushrooms fruiting back there! I left them because most needed another day or two of growing before they produce optimal spore prints, and because it was getting dark and I was in fear that I would step on more than I'd pick :smile: So all in all it was a good day, we found about 60 weilii. So all you Georgia folks get your ass out there and start looking hard, prime season has just begun and will only get better for the next few months. Check those new neighborhoods, the alpharetta marietta area has really been a hot spot this year, I have found weilii everytime I visit the area. A few new tips: When searching new neighborhoods check around trees, pine islands, bushes, edges of sidewalk and driveways, and just along any "interface ecosystem" as paul stamets puts it.


These pics are just from todays newfound patches, my main has about 30 mushrooms in it that I left to mature for spore prints. This is only hafe of what I found today!

Hrmmm.... I've got some friends down in the Alpharetta area, I'm gonna have to go check out their lawns. How about Duluth near the river, have you found anything down in that area?

Like I've said before and I mean it, your more than welcome to visit me when your ever in the area saint!!

I will have some prints available in a contest later this week, I hate selling prints cuz I'm bad about sending things on time, and I hate to give away to only a select few cuz it ain't fair, and I don't have enough prints for everyone who wants one or I'd give one to everyone who asked, so I figure the fair thing to do would be to give everyone an equal chance in a contest.

Now as for you Georgians, if your really serious about meeting up for a hunt email me at tud@attbi.com and we can talk about possibly setting something up, I'm not promising anything, I can only take a few folks at a time, but I would love to share this mushrooms first hand with some folks who enjoy picking mushrooms as much as I do. Ladle and moe, your first on my list, so hit me up when you get the chance, the sooner the better, I'm thinking sometime later this week around thursday would work best.

They've probably been here for a long time, and will continue in profusion if we don't overpick them. It just takes a modern day medicine man like you to identify and document it like this. We owe you big time. I hope you're thumping those caps to let those precious little spores fly.

i'm gonna find a weilli in upstate sc if its that last thing i do!  100 miles north of atlanta they gottsta be hinding here somewhere.....gottsta be!!

Hell yeah man, go get em' :smile: I have very strong suspicions that weilii gotsta be growing in both SC and Alabama, they just have to be. I'm glad there are people like you who aren't living in GA but are looking for the weilii anyways, seek and you shall find! Who knows, maybe you'll stumble across a new species in your ventures to find weilii.
