weilii question...
    #1882701 - 09/04/03 09:57 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

This is my first time posting on the shroomery, but for the past couple years I have read extensively and taken in alot of valuable information from these boards(there are so many helpful people on here). I've spent a great deal of time over the past few months researching psilocybe weilii and the opportunity for me to drive down near Atlanta has come up this weekend. I already have a good idea about where they grow and in what kind of habitat, but I'm a little hesitant the make the trip from Chattanooga due to this dry spell. So, I have a couple quick questions. I plan on hunting in a few counties north of atlanta, possibly Cherokee, Bartow, and Forsyth counties. From experience does anyone think it is possible to successfully find weilii in counties just north of the places I listed? We've had some pretty heavy downpours here near chattanooga recently and I didnt know if I would have better luck by concentrating my hunt furthur north, say 45minutes to and hour south of where I live. Also, has anybody successfully found any weilii recently? Thank you. I would appreciate any answers that somebody might me willing to give.

this dry spell is indeed pretty bad and it has rained *yet* here.

Cherokee Defintely has Weilii as does anywhere in the surrounding vicinity of Atlanta.

I would go to the more Developed areas. Cherokee,Cobb,Fulton,Forsyth,Bartow.

Pickins might be too far up.

The weilii fruiting has been very sparse lately. I would stick to counties in the northern Atlanta metro area for your hunting.

As far as I'm concerned the season is not in full swing yet. If you look at last years posts, it really took off in the second and third week of September. So providing we get some rain, it should be right around the corner.

As far as how north they go, that's still open ended. They have been found in Athens and the lake lanier area. I think everyone is speculating they go further north, possibly into tenessee and the carolinas.

Thank you for answering...

I think I'm going to drive down there anyway, just to check things out. Even if I don't find anything I suppose its still worth it to try. Maybe I'll just check grassy areas with irrigation sytems, or shady spots...I was just looking for a few fruits so that I could enjoy my saturday night...It's been three months since my last trip and I'm eager to see what the weilii has in store for me.

I found about 20 weilii last month, but Ill agree with Gumby, fruiting has been sparse. Weilii season doesn't really getting kicking until late september.

Do weilii's grow about 30 mins south of chattanooga tn? Im about in that area maybe 40 mins, it has rained a few times here somewhat heavy.. So the mushrooms should be popping up, haven't spotted many at all really though but do they grow around the upper west corner of ga?? (weilii's that is!)
