dehydrating
    #9423698 -

I currently have a few 3 inch mushies (first ever--yay!!!) in my dehydrator (no heating element, thanks to the husband for snipping).  This may be a silly question, but does anyone know roughly how long it takes them to dry?  The humidity at our place is low low low, especially since its winter and the heater is on constantly.

Thanks for helping a newbie out with another silly question!

i use my kitchen table and the ceiling fan... it takes about 24 hours then into the desacant chanber for another day... vwalla cracker dry... i would guess 1 day in a dehydrator would be fine.

i always brake one open to see if all is dry and good. hope i helped

Most people leave them for 24-48 hours with just a fan. no-heat dehydrator is basically that.

It would work better if you put some desiccant (silica gel) in there on one of the lower racks, just make sure you don't get it on the actual mushrooms.

If your RH is that low [30% or lower preferably], then you will be fine just putting them on those racks and pointing a fan at it, as long as the air is able to run right in and thru the racks.  No desiccant needed and they should be good to go in 24 hours.  The length will basically come down to just HOW dry it is - do you know the %RH?
