If you're going to use it exclusively for shrooms, I'd go ahead and take it apart (carefully) and disconnect the heating element. It is the thing that has the metal coils and a couple of wires coming off it. I was able to take mine apart with a screwdriver. I just completely removed mine.

It's just that cooler is better So if your room temp is lower than 85 degrees, it may be advantageous to do it. On the other hand, it's not like 85 degrees is going to TOTALLY fuck up the shrooms. I really can't say because I never tried.

Well.... I have! I use a food dehydrator and 85 to 95 degrees isn't going to mess up your shrooms. In fact it will dry them out faster....cracker dry in less than a day. There is no noticible loss in potentcy.
Don't buy a Ronco food dehydrator......they are crap!
Buy an American Harvest Snackmaster.....they work great. You can pick them up in 2nd hand stores for hardly anything. They cost $69.00 brand new. I get them for $3.99 to $6.99 in the 2nd hand stores.....and they are like new. I have 3 of them.....and I always look for more.
You might find some on Ebay.....but they get sniped at the last minute usually.
good luck!

I used a food dehydrator with a small heating element at the bottom of it. I got mine at a thrift store for 8 bux and I drilled holes in the side of the trays (about 10 holes each) to let fresh cool air in as well.
I did not disconnect the heating element, because I could have made screens and put them in front of a fan for less money. I left the mushies in there for about 6-8 hours and then finish drying them over a dessicant. The loss of potentcy seemed negligible.
Before I got the dehydrator, I used a fan and the dessicant and did a 2g trip that was a level 3+. Then I dried the rest on the dehydrator and dessicant and had a party with everyone having a 2g trip and I was easily at a 3+ again. Everyone had a good time.
Make your own call, but if you are going to disconnect the heating element why buy a dehydrator, make screen trays to stack on top of one another and use a fan that you probably already have.
Good luck

No... 85 even 100 degrees should not have any real effect on the potency. Psilocin and psilocybin don't even break down at those temperatures. I am not sure why people insist that slightly elevated temperatures will cause any noticeable loss. If anything the only way to preserve 100% potency is to freeze dry them in an oxygen free environment. Psilocin (melting point 103-104 degrees centigrade) is relatively unstable in air, but psilocybin is much more resistant to degradation due to it being phosphorylated. either way i say get that dehydrator. peace

I agree 100%. It's a myth. Anyone who makes tea knows that it takes more heat than a dehydrator will produce to destroy the active chemicals.

I bought a sunbeam dehydrator and did a test dry with it (it has a heating element) and I thought there was some loss of potency. I put a thermometer in it and tested the temp inside, 130?F. WAYYY TOO HOT! 85-90? might be fine but be careful, some dehydrators are damn hot. I disconnected the element and BOOM! Be careful, unless you know what your doing, you could be in for a SHOCK! Anyway, I got it happenin ok now, no heat just fan drying bliss. BTW, can anyone recommend a good dessicant down under and tell me where to get it?

You DID unplug it before trying to disconnect the heating element? Right.
